Wet Specimens - Over Pale Bodies (runstatetapes.bandcamp.com)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by Groschi to c/postpunk

Maybe a bit of a stretch posting this in [email protected] but i think the strong goth-y deathrock vibes endow this one with just about the minimum required amount of post punk crossover appeal. :-) Over Pale Bodies releases August 25th via Runstate Tapes.

Piss Shivers - Piss Shivers (2023) (gimmiezine.bandcamp.com)
submitted 1 year ago by Groschi to c/postpunk

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/3478901

A brilliant new release brought to us by Gimmie Records, the record label extension of the fabulous Gimme Gimmie Gimmie blog-/zine empire. Piss Shivers are a Brisbane duo whose debut LP kicks up a highly flammable fuss located vaguely inside the Garage-, Post Punk and Postcore coordinates, sometimes reminding me of a Crisis Man-meet-Hot Snakes hybrid while at other points you might be reminded of early Teenanger, the pitch-black postcore dystopias of Video, VHS or the furious anger of Wymyns Prysyn. Further i'm recalling the likes of Xetas, Gaffer, Ascot Stabber and Batpiss… maybe a bit of Zhoop/Djinn/Feed energy aswell in its more primitive, straightforward moments.

NEW SINGLE: I Guess by Never Knows Best (neverknowsbestmusic.bandcamp.com)
submitted 1 year ago by Eldritch to c/postpunk

Cameron Dunbar formed Never Knows Best out of the ashes of his previous solo project, The Blinking Lights. Inspired by classic acts such as: Joy Division, The Cure, and Depeche Mode, as well as modern outfits like Chvrches, and Cold Cave, Dunbar set out to reimagine his sound with an eclectic mix of synthesizers, electronic drum beats, and distorted guitars.

Released Tues. August 8, 2023

Song lyrics reflect on coping with isolation. Isolation, caused by separating people in to artificial groupings.

The lead guitar uses a blues double-stop ( two notes played simultaneously ). The rhythm guitar uses a folk/bluegrass technique of implying a chord progression ( with only two notes ).

Beef - Beef (beef.bandcamp.com)

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/2717893

This Cincinnati group's second EP sets off a strong new set of highly flammable charges made up of ingredients found somewhere in the grey areas of Noise Rock, Post-, Garage- and Synth Punk… a bit like an unstable mixture of Busted Head Racket, Brandy, R.Clown, ISS, Spyroids and Knowso boiled down to an almost '70s/'80s The Fall-esqe simplicity and repetition.

Incredible compilation of a mid-80s japanese group - genre-busting shit that could equally be classified as post punk, no wave, art punk, psychedelic, garage punk or (proto-)noise rock!

Actually this came out on the fourth. But I'd like this album even if for nothing more than the cover art. Dropping acid and hanging out with muppets. #lifegoals
