I'm using postmarketOS plasma edge on my Pinephone Pro. The KDE program Kasts (installed from a postmarketOS package) crashed when I tried to run it, so I filed a bug report with them. They suggested that I file this bug directly with postmarketOS. The rationale was:

These kinds of faults tend to happen when a library that Kasts depends on gets updated without Kasts itself getting recompiled. Then you can end up with an instruction that has changed in the underlying lib without Kasts knowing about this, leading to a crash. So, I would think it's simply a matter of recompiling the package.

I'm not sure where the correct place is to file a bug with postmarketOS. If there is another place where I should do so, then do let me know in the comments below. Thanks.

A bunch of characters seem to be missing making text unreadable. What could the problem be?

I want to install PostmarketOS on my Xiaomi Mi 9t but, as it say on the wiki page, it's not in the repositories, so I can't just select it in pmbootstrap. How do I install it then?

I ran updates this morning on my PinePhone running PostmarketOS and it seems the phone can no longer suspend correctly. Once a minute or so the screen flashes to the lock screen with the message "automatic suspend" and then goes black again, but doesn't seem to actually suspend. The blue notification light keeps blinking. This means the battery drains faster. Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas what is going on? Booting doesn't solve the issue. I'm using Phosh.

EDIT: More information and a workaround at: https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/2185

Is Alpine also becoming immutable, or is this development towards immutable independent/separate from Alpine?

I'm not involved in the project by any means. Not even an user yet. Just a fanboy. Thanks for everybody involved in this project.

I would love to use PostmarketOS as my daily driver but my Pinephone CE isn't really giving me the battery life I need to make it happen. I am looking at what phones I can get my hands on in Canada that would be better suited. So far the OnePlus 6T seems to be my best option. I can't get the Shift6mq or the Poco F1 shipped here. Any suggestions if battery life is my main need ? I take my phone off the charger at 11am and don't get home until close to midnight with no way to charge while at work.

Hi, I just installed postmarketos on my OnePlus 6 and after an update of the packages (or install a new one), I get "no space left" errors. I followed the guide and flashed the partition like it's written in it. Any reason that can cause this ?

OnePlus 6 with 128gb, using the prebuilt sxmo (sway) edge image.

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ndlug.org/post/8065

Alice "psykose" who is easily responsible for the highest number of commits per author over the past year has decided to step down from maintaining her packages.

She hasn't decided what to do next but likely "catch up on a year of sleep." She doesn't believe that this will ultimately impact Alpine Linux itself but hopes that others will pick-up what's needed to keep on going with the package maintenance.

Obviously things can change over time but does anybody know if there is currently any planned support for the RISC-V version of the PineTab 2 for PostmarketOS ? Would a RISC-V device even work with PostmarketOS ?

Hi all,

I am using a few old oneplus phones with pmos as a cheap homelab.

The thing is that they are permanently connected and I would like to limit the charge to something like 40% to prevent battery from swolling but I couldn't find how to do it.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I got a problem with my installation of PostmarketOS on a Fairphone 2

The problem

When the phone boot, after the PostmarketOS logo, I got a TTY instead of phosh or gnome.

I have no UART or network access to the phone, so I try to copy the error message I can see with a magnifying glass:

msm_mdp fd900100.display-controller: [drm:adreno_request_fw] loaded qcom/a330_pm4.fw from new location
msm_mdp fd900100.display-controller: [drm:adreno_request_fw] loaded qcom/a330_pfp.fw from new location
input: ILI210x Touchscreen as /devices/plateform/soc/f9924000.i2cโ€ฆ
[drm:mdp5_irq_error_handler] *ERROR* errors: 04000000
Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 135x120
msm_mdp fd900100.display-controller: [drm] fb0: msmdrmfb frame buffer device

And then, I got an invite to log on TTY1

The installation

I use pmbootstrap. On the init, I choose this configuration:

Canal: Edge
Vendor: Fairphone
Device: fp2
Kernel: mainline
User interface: Phosh
All other options: The default

I flashed by following the wiki page: https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Fairphone_2_(fairphone-fp2)

Great video showing how Gnome Shell on Mobile looks like in postmarketOS v23.06 on the PinePhone, including a segment with convergence mode. Found it in the latest linmob.net weekly post.

I'm interested in getting an inexpensive device to install PostmarketOS on just to play around with mobile Linux and maybe do some testing (I'm not expecting this to be my daily driver phone).

The Samsung A5 seems like a device that works reasonably well with PM and can be bought on Ebay fairly cheaply. However, it looks like most of the A5 I see on Ebay are 2016 and 2017 models. I notice the Wiki specifically mentions the 2015 model though.

Are these devices compatible, or do I need specifically the 2015 model?

Any other suggestions for inexpensive mobile devices that support PM that are widely available?

So I am trying to port postmarketos, I have gotten very far (everything has compiled) but there is an issue during pmbootstrap install

Before you ask I have asked Matrix/IRC

I noticed my SoC has mainline support so I'm mainlining it

Phone specs:

  • Samsung Galaxy A127F
  • Exynos 850 SoC
  • stock bootloader

Logs:

Files used:

What I think is happening:

  • mkbootimg is failing for some reason

What I think can fix it:

  • Disabling it. This wiki page says:

" generate_bootimg | Set this to true for fastboot device, so the mkinitfs command will generate a boot.img file after creating the initfs. Add mkbootimg as dependency to your device's APKBUILD! "

I don't know if a phone using samsungs download mode counts as a "fastboot device" I have tried disabling it but heimdall then stopped at 6% I followed the advice of the wiki but then heimdall got stuck at 27%

  • Adding more arguments. The error is error: not enough arguments '/tmp/mkinitfs1981624154/boot.img' so just add the arguments? The problem is I don't know which ones. According to the wiki I could use bootimg_custom_args to add custom arguments, but which custom arguments? And where are the files arguments like --kernel should point to?

Please remind me if I forgot to mention anything and I will happily edit my post :D

Edit: I would just like to say thanks to everyone who has helped me on previous issues and anyone who helps me on any other issue (including this one)

I am unable to view the site or the wiki. When I build for my device, the script is unable to download from the server. Am I doing something wrong?

My Pinephone is very weak so it's a little slow but my personal experience with it is amazing. It seems like its finally starting to take shape. Let's bug hunt and make Linux mobile and the GNOME ecosystem better for everyone.

Convergence needs some work, as I use my Pinephone with my HDMI dock 99% of the time. There are a couple hiccups and tweaks that definitely need to be made, but I have no doubt that the solutions will be trivial. A lot of the hard work is done IMO.

Distrobox also doesn't seem to be working in my favor, but I don't know if that's just an aarch64 thing or a pmOS thing. Not super important right now but I'm always testing it out.
