This is a rare glimpse into the Chin resistance fighting the military in the Northwest of Myanmar.

The United Wa State Army (UWSA) has begun organizing a militia group in Hopang Township, northern Shan State to coordinate with its newly established administration there. This comes after the township was seized by the Brotherhood Alliance early this year and subsequently handed over to the UWSA.

He also pointed out that though Hopang and Panlong were initially handed over to it(Wa State Army) by the Brotherhood Alliance, the UWSA has only been able to establish its administration in the towns under an official agreement with the regime. “Otherwise, the town would be bombed!” he said.

The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) says large-scale ruby mining in Mogoke, Mandalay Region, will be suspended until it benefits the community.

[Although] Individual [miners] have been allowed to mine in Mogoke since September to support their livelihoods, said Lwei Yay Oo.

Military-owned Myanma Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL) and other firms with links to the army have controlled Mogoke’s mines, which account for 90 percent of Myanmar’s ruby production.

Authorities in the eastern Indian state of Manipur are warning thousands of Myanmar nationals who fled conflict in the Sagaing region that they have one month to return home, despite the ongoing threat of junta airstrikes that wiped out many of their villages.

Sagaing has seen some of the fiercest fighting between junta troops and the armed opposition since the military‘s February 2021 coup d’etat, which has forced around 5,000 residents of the region to seek shelter in neighboring India’s Manipur state.

YANGON—Myanmar’s embattled junta chief arrived in China Tuesday—his first reported visit since leading a coup in 2021—but analysts say the invitation is only a lukewarm endorsement from his key ally and could backfire.

Min Aung Hlaing was in the southwestern city of Kunming for a summit of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS)—a group including China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia—starting Wednesday.

"We detained them for entering our waters without permission and fishing there. We've repeatedly banned fishing in these areas and given warnings. It seems they didn't know about the change in border control and thought they could fish like before," U Khaing Thukha explained.

The suspension of mining operations in Myanmar... could lead to a shortage in the supply of these materials, a research report released by Huatai Securities said.

Myanmar accounts for more than 50 percent of the global heavy rare-earth supply, and given the current situation in Myanmar, the rare-earth market prices are likely to experience a sustained increase, Wu Chenhui, an independent industry analyst who closely follows the industry, told the Global Times on Sunday.

This supply is in jeopardy since the shut down of the Chinese border and mining operations since KIA take over of the mining hub in Kachin State.
