Hunter's Handbook

📖 Relevant Posts Only
Keep it related to Monster Hunter. Plain and simple. If it's questionable, be ready to back it up.

📖 Respect Your Fellow Hunters
Greenhorns or oldhats, we all start somewhere in the series. Everyone is welcome.

No racism, bigotry, flaming, trolling, or any other behavior unbecoming of a guild hunter. We're here to play and discuss Monster Hunter with like-minded folks, act like it.

No "game shaming": This isn't a place for title vs title arguments. Take that to steam forums or elsewhere. Compare/contrast mechanics between games, discuss what worked or didn't and how. Devolving into flame wars of "MHX sucks, gib more MHY" will not be tolerated.

No "off-meta" shaming: having fun playing the game is the meta. Discuss strats, builds, and give suggestions, but that's all they are, suggestions.

📖 Original Art Only
No AI art: too easy to spam, too low effort.

Attribute original artists with links, watermarks, and mentions where available. If you don't know the source, say so.

If an internet sleuth finds a poster cribbing others' art as their own, that's a bannable offense.

Emulated MHGU (self.monsterhunter)

I just recently got MHGU up and running on yuzu and later found some amazing QoL mods on ryujinx. 120FPS mod (from yuzu), camera FOV (huge for me, even gen 5 default is too close still), and a whole-ass, fan-made HD texture pack. Just bonkers to go from last playing MHG on 3DS to this experience. Highly recommend.

Played Monster Hunter on the PS2 for the first time. My thoughts:

  1. It's amazing how much the core tenets of the game have been retained even 20 years later. You play MH and it feels a bit more primitive, but not completely foreign. Monsters are familiar, weapons are familiar, music is familiar. It doesn't feel much different from the PSP games or the even the 3DS games.

  2. Swinging your weapon with the right analog stick is the weirdest thing. This makes the way the PSP games control make a lot more sense.

  3. I really wish there were pirate servers out there so I could play online. That would be great. I wish companies would make open-source servers after the corporate ones go offline, because MH is all about playing with others.

It's a cool look back, though.

Moment to moment play is good. Capcom clearly got involved to make the combat this robust for a tap-only mobile game.

I really hate the timer. It feels extremely antithetical to the MH spirit. And before you out-gear mons it causes high-risk gameplay. So of course it was by design since potions cost money.

The spawn rates for nodes being 3 hours is the most brain dead thing i can possibly imagine. You can't play this at a park for hours on end just spinning stops like in POGO. I can't see how that decision does anything but discourage long term play from what otherwise could have been.

The randomness of the biomes and their shifting is also a barrier to long term play.

As is, I'm currently only playing GPS spoofing as it seems the only effective use of playtime. If that catches me a ban, I'll go back to the real thing.

I hope Capcom sees what could be and makes something better out of it.

MHR Help choose a weapon (self.monsterhunter)
submitted 1 year ago by NeutralFlame to c/monsterhunter

I’m a beginner. I’ve used Charge Blade extensively I know it’s a technical weapon but CPP and other wirebind skills make it really fun to use. I’m thinking of picking an alternate weapon to use as a main. I didn’t like the Lance felt really slow. Was thinking of using long sword again what do you guys recommend for a melee focused playstyle. Also people say long sword is DPS focused and becomes difficult to play in the long run what does that mean?

Prepare for...nothing probably.

We can't be disappointed if we expect nothing.

Anyone played MHNow enough to do a breakdown of the different move set inputs for the current weapons?

If so, make a new post and I'll pin it.

I'm a budget switch gamer, got mhgu on sale I enjoy it but it feels kinda slow. Is rise a big big upgrade? What's changed.

Currently, players can expect ten potions, three paintballs, a Founder Medal, and three Wander Pebbles to get started with.

We're in the money, hunters.

[MHW] Nergigante last area (self.monsterhunter)
submitted 2 years ago by Sjotroll to c/monsterhunter

Today I fought Nergigante for the first time...and then three more times... In the first try I already got it to being close to death (with the skull showing on the map), and fainted two more times in the last area which failed the quest. And all the next attempt were the same, I always fail in the last area by fainting two times. I'm gonna beat it soon, he's really not that hard, but I was wondering if others had the same "problem" with his last area 🙃 Also, how the fuck do you dodge his aerial charge??

Btw. playing without my cat

Players can pre-register for the iOS and Android mobile game at the official Monster Hunter Now website; for their trouble, they’ll be rewarded with in-game bonuses that scale up according to the number of people who sign up. If 500,000 people sign up, everyone gets 10 potions and 3 paintballs (paintballs are used to mark monsters you encounter on your travels to hunt later at home). If 5 million sign up, everyone gets 10,000 Zenny and a 1,000-slot inventory expansion; that’s a lot of space for your monster parts.

At launch, the available weapon types will include:

Sword & Shield
Great Sword
Long Sword
Hammer
Light Bowgun
Bow

And the monsters players will be tracking down and battling as they take a lunchtime stroll will be:

Great Jagras
Kulu-Ya-Ku
