Can't seem to figure it out by myself. Thanks!

It only shows currently subscribed communities (of each instance) under the hamburger menu.

I'd like to be able to swipe to hide (or whatever) posts from my feed.

And the Home button should automatically bring you to the top.

Two questions.

  1. How do I switch users? (Answered by me below)
  2. How do I search for or directly open a specific community on a specific instance?

How do I switch users?

Well, I did a bunch of trial and error to figure out how it works.

  1. Each instance you add to the app can have one or more users. If you have multiple users on an instance, you can select one user to be your default user there. You do this by long pressing the account name in Settings and selecting "Set as default". Then when you switch instances using the drop-down list on the main screen, you are logging into the default account for that instance.
  2. Before hitting reply to either a post or comment, you can open the respective three-dot menu and tap "View on another instance" to go to that post or comment on that instance which also logs you into your default account on that instance. Even though that instance chooser lets you choose a specific user from that instance, it will still log you in as your default user. This seems like a bug to me.

I still wish there were a way to see which user/instance was active before you make a post or reply. The compose message screen should show that somewhere.

#How do I search for or directly open a specific community on a specific instance?

When I use the search feature, I can choose an instance, and put in a community name, but then when I hit Search and tap the "Communities" tab, it shows me communities all over the fediverse. I just want to open a specific community of which I know the name.

I've read that to find a community on a Lemmy website to search [email protected], but trying that in Liftoff yields no results at all.

Is there some simple way to open a specific community?

EDIT: In Connect for Lemmy, starting a search with ! changes the UI to "Go to community". That's really nice and clear. I addition, I tried entering just !liftoff, and even though I was on sh.itjust.works, it still brought me directly here. Maybe because it knew it was the only community with that name (if that's even the case). I don't yet know what happens if I enter a name that exists on multiple instances.

On iOS. Once you scroll down so far the screen dims very slightly. The amount you need to scroll to make it happen varies from post to post, but it’s usually around 2 full screens.

See linked screenshots (forgive the iCloud link).

The dimming seems to be restricted to liftoff. Brightness remains the same in settings and the top status bar is unaffected. It can be reversed by scrolling back up.

I love the app, but I've added a handful of accounts, and the app's handling of this is strange.

First:

Despite which account I'm logged into within liftoff, any comments I make seem to default to whichever of my accounts matches the instance of the OP. So, if I'm logged into my lemmy.ml account, and I comment on a post made by someone from lemm.ee to lemmy.world, it posts under my lemm.ee account because it matches the OP's instance.

*Edit: I think I was reading this wrong. It's not the OP's instance, but rather whichever instance it was sourced from. So, lemmy.ee /All vs lemmy.world /All. So that makes a little more sense, but it's still ignoring the account that I've logged in as.

I'm curious to see which one it uses for this post, since I'm logged in under Lemm.ee, but this is a lemmy.world community.

Second:

Browsing by All/Hot is using all of my accounts' subscriptions, rather than all of Lemmy. It's like it's expecting each account to only be subbed to its own instance's communities, which isn't how the fediverse is meant to be used. This results in a couple of weird behaviors.

The first 12 or so posts on my front page are always the pinned messages for EVERY instance in which I have an account.

I'll see most posts 6+ times because my accounts share some subscriptions... So if they're all subbed to the same lemmy.world meme community, then that floods my feed with the same meme for every account that I have added to Liftoff.

*edit 2: Maybe this was a bug, because an app restart seems to have mostly resolved the duplicates too! I'm still a little unclear about why I would choose an account on the profile screen when it auto-switches based on which instance's filter I'm using though. But now that I know that it does, I think this will work well for me!

I love the look and feel of this app, ~~but I think I'm going to have to log out of all but one account to make it usable in the meantime.~~

For example, have "Show NSFW" active when logged in to one account, but disabled when switching to another. Because... reasons 😉

I believe Jerboa has this feature (account specific view settings}

Really enjoying the app by the way!

I see random posts from lemmynsfw that aren't marked nsfw and it's quite jarring. Can I block the whole instance?

Edit: I should've googled first, there's an open GitHub issue:

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2397

Pressing the Community button throws a "Null check operator" error

In my profile, I can see a count for my post, but the post itself doesn't show up under any sorting filter option

There are a lot of communities I haven't subscribed to since there were only 1-2 other users. I've also noticed that some communities started out strong and seemed to practically die.

But today I was looking for a community and searched through lemmy.world instead of my own instance. Turns out the subscribers never left - I just can't see them. For example:

  • if I search [email protected] using my home instance on liftoff, I see 2 subscribers
  • if I look up the same community using lemmy.world, I see 58 subscribers
  • if I look up the community in Google (not logged in), I see 58 subscribers
  • if I click on the [email protected] link in my own post, I see 110 subscribers
  • if I search using my home instance for new communities, say [email protected] , there's 1 subscriber and no posts
  • if I access [email protected] through my saved committees list, I can see posts

I've noticed the same issues on !lemmy.world and !sh.itjust.works , but I can only say that for sure because I know those instances should have more traffic. I don't think my instance has defederated with theirs.

Does anyone know of this is an issue with liftoff, lemmy, or simple defederation?

For now we need to switch instance when viewing the topic, then only can comment using the desired account. Would be great to switch account when writing the comment itself.

Title, basically.

I was just wondering if it was possible for Liftoff/Lemmy to allow a kind of sorting on your saved posts.

I save all kinds of things - mostly memes, but also informative posts, posts containing links, playlists, quotes etc. And I thought it might benefit people doing the same if you could somehow sort them into groups to better organize them.

Just a suggestion, I have no skills whatsoever in developing, so if this is not possible/feasible then so be it :)

First of all love the app, its my daily driver now for Lemmy!

I was wondering if you could favourite or "star" communities in the list so they would always show on top of the list? I love to check my feed but also I like to daily browse specific communities. It would help a lot, especially with my growing number of communities subbed.

Many thanks and keep up the great work!

I'm not sure what this screen is for, but it doesn't currently work.

They seem to have had some success working on this, but it appears that once again, you will need to follow the old routine:

  1. go to Settings > Accounts
  2. optional (see update below) -- long press on each lemmy.world account to remove it.
  3. then add it back again.

[Update: user feedback is that you can just add your existing account again without deleting it and the app will do the right thing]

We are looking at a better way of dealing with this. Thanks for bearing with us.

As you can see in the attached image...

  1. When an image is sufficiently long enough it will spill under the image control.
  2. When an image is sufficiently long enough it will spill under the phone's drag down bar/quick access bar.

These bars are made partially transparent to support this. However this partial transparency will obfuscate the content of some images making the experience of using the app frustrating.

This happens quite regularly in landscape mode, but does also happen in portrait mode.

Proposed Change: Fully transparent image control bar, leaving just the controls themselves as visible overlays. Restrict image sizes to ensure they don't spill under the quick access bar

For some reason since the hack I keep getting that message from time to time, I have changed my password removed the account from liftoff and log back in, just to get the same error not even 24 hours later.

On All, sorted by New. v0.10.7

It might help a bit. I remember Infinity used to do this.

I'm having some issues with subscription list view when it wouldn't load for me at all moat of the time, I got "null check operator used on null check value" message with a reload option that doesn't do anything? Anybody else having this issue? Any way to fix? I have two accounts logged in if that makes any difference.

I'm new to liftoff, but I really like the combined view ('Everything feed') of my 2 accounts. I have noticed however, that the notifications (e.g. for replies to my comments or posts) are separated, and I do not see an indicator that I have a notification on an account.

Is it possible to have such a notification when I use the combined view?

Hello! When I try to find a new community that hasn't been searched before on my instance via Liftoff, nothing shows up even after multiple attempts. However, when I do the same via usual browser, everything works fine. Does anyone know how to solve that? Other than that I love using Liftoff

Today I've experienced a really annoying bug:
When opening a bookmarked post it gets automatically removed from the bookmarks. So to keep the booksmarked post you have to rebookmark it every time you open it.

Is this an issue of liftoff or lemmy itself?

Loved that feature and hope to see it implemented
