Healthcare workers are being targeted and killed by Israel in Gaza. This hasn’t stopped American doctor Tanya Haj-Hassan from repeatedly going back.

“I think it's normal to have some fear for your own safety,” she tells us. “You're going into a war zone where essentially there is indiscriminate killing of everybody. But at the same time, our colleagues have been enduring this for fifteen months straight. And it's intolerable and unbearable to watch it from the outside.”

And I can tell you as someone who's working in the North American healthcare system that we are silenced, and that when we speak out, we pay the price.”

But to Dr. Haj-Hassan, remaining silent isn’t an option. “Being silent in the face of the intentional decimation of an entire healthcare system, the intentional killing and targeting of healthcare workers, the intentional detention and torture of healthcare workers for no other crime other than providing healthcare is complicity.”

So, Tanya shares the harrowing stories of her time in Gaza, and while it’s very hard to hear, it is more important than ever to bear witness to the crimes committed against the Palestinian people.

“You just finish mourning the loss of somebody you know,” Tanya shares, “and then you receive the next bit of news. And I think that's characteristic of everything we've been witnessing since October of last year. Just as an example, on Christmas Day, five journalists in a press marked vehicle were killed by a direct airstrike. A day later, Kamal Adwan Hospital is raided and burned down. Dr. Hassan Abu Safiya, the director, is, we're told, beaten and taken away to Israeli prisons.”

Dr. Hassan Abu Safiya, who was photographed bravely walking towards Israeli tanks, was already injured by Israel. His son had already been murdered by Israel. Yet he refused to leave the hospital. His pleas for help to the international community were ignored. His hospital was destroyed. And now he is reported to be in the notorious Sde Teiman prison, where Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh was killed and, according to witnesses, essentially raped to death.

Dr. Haj-Hassan continues: “And if it happened anywhere else in the world or it had happened in isolation, you'd have time to report on it and to share it with the world. But you just you move on the next day.”

Tanya also talks about pushing back on a CNN reporter and explaining that this is not some natural humanitarian crisis. This is genocide. And she reacts to the hateful smearing of child-educator and youtuber Ms. Rachel who is being called an antisemite for saying "children have the right to live." 'We believe Israel has a right to defend itself.' And that is usually a phrase which is delivered by Western politicians and spokespersons or government adjacent corporate media companies after Israel commits some massive war crime. So there'll be a massive slaughter, and then these people will be asked about it, and the first thing they'll say is, 'Well, Israel has a right to defend itself.'

I thought it was really important to unpack that, what I called the self defense because Israel does not have a right to defend itself in that way. As a matter of international law, as you said, this is a double lie. First, Israel does not have an article 51 right to self defense in the Gaza Strip, in the West Bank, in East Jerusalem, or in the Golan Heights.

And then secondly, The acts that they are trying to justify by saying that Israel has a right to self defense are not justifiable under international law. So even if self defense applied, those acts would still be crimes. So it's a double lie, in that sense. And this is clearly based upon international law.

I point out in the article is that while Israel does not have that right to self defense to make war on the occupied, territories, Palestinian people under international law do have a right. Palestinians have a right, to use armed force under international law."

Palestinian-American activist Moataz Salim slams AOC for claiming that Kamala Harris "is working tirelessly is working tirelessly to secure a ceasefire in Gaza." Salim explains, " I liked [AOC] at some point. And it's just been the most pathetic, blatant selling out imaginable. It's insane to me how stupid they think we are. And the saddest thing is that people do actually fall for that. It's absolutely horrific. And a spit in the face of everyone, not just Palestinian, but anyone with a conscience, with a heart who understands the Palestinian issue and the issue of Palestinian liberation. He had previously spent over 11 years working as a Director in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, which is responsible for U.S. defense diplomacy, security assistance, and arms transfers. He previously worked on security sector reform in both Iraq and the West Bank, with additional roles in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, U.S. Army Staff, and as a Military Legislative Assistant for a Member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee. Josh grew up between London and New York, and holds Masters degrees from the Universities of Georgetown and St Andrews, Scotland. He is currently a Non-Resident Fellow at the organization Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) and a recipient of the 2023 Callaway Award for Civic Courage.

Katie and Josh Paul, who resigned from the State Department in October 2023, discuss what Josh calls “Israel’s systemitization” of sexual violence. Josh knows this subject well, given his experience: “a charity called Defense of Children International Palestine (DCIP) drew our attention at the State Department to the rape of a 13 year old boy that occurred in an Israeli prison. We examined these allegations, we believed they were credible, we put them to the government of Israel. And you know what happened the next day? The IDF went into the DCIP offices and removed all their computers and declared them a terrorist entity.” But that’s not all. When Israeli police detained Israeli soldiers accused of rping a Palestinian prisoner at the Sde Teiman Camp, Israelis responded by protesting, not the rpe, but the detention. Then, a member of the Knesset, when asked if it was “legitimate to insert a stick into a person’s rectum” replied “If he is a Nukhba [Hamas militant], everything is legitimate to do! Everything!” And most recently, Israeli soldiers filmed themselves engaging in what looks like sxual assault of a Palestinian prisoner. As if that’s not enough, Israel’s own human rights organization B’Tselem has issued a report called “Welcome to Hell,” which describes “The Israeli prison system as a network of torture camps,” which includes sexual violence and rpe. https://www.btselem.org/publications/...

Our state department spokesperson literally said I can’t determine if it’s a war crime for soldiers to rape, kill and torture because “I’m not a legal expert.” He should be shunned everywhere he goes.
