o.map (self.kaios)

Hello,

Lately I've been busy with my map app again. I made the following adjustments:

  • all map layers can now be removed, which is useful when following a loaded path (gpx, geoJSON), especially on a bike ride. so you only see the path with a lot of contrast, which increases readability. the map data are not absolutely necessary for a routing to follow the path.

  • gpx paths can now be followed, if you go too far there is a notification, useful for hiking or cycling.

  • with longpress # you can now turn on a keylock + screenoff to save energy. however, these functions are just a css gimmick to bypass the passcode (if enabled).

I'm always happy about feedback to improve the app.

the latest version can soon be installed via the KaiOS store or via the bhackerStore.

Yes, there are alternatives to google maps - one of them is to use the map material from openstreetmap. I wrote a map app for KaiOS that uses it. in my last update of the app i added a function with which you can upload your tracking file to your openstreetmap account every 5 minutes. the function can be activated with longpress key 1, the prerequisite is that you have connected the app to your osm account, which you can do in the app settings.

have fun.
