Image of an orange and gold colored jellyfish on a black background. Instead of the head being mushroom-shaped, it is more plate-like and the pattern on it is similar to a star with a dozen points.

Image of jellyfish on black background. It's translucent blue with gold accents and is upright.

Originally on deepseacreatures.org, but this site no longer exists. :(

jonwithabullet-deactivated20190:

Hundreds of moon jellyfish babies have been born at the Weymouth Sealife centre in Dorset. Aquarists say they have never seen so many jelly babies of all shapes, sizes and colours from many different species at one time - but even though they may look cute many of them are highly poisonous as well.

Turritopsis dohrnii can revert back to its polyp stage, restarting the life cycle. There is theoretically no biological limit for this.

This is a bay nettle I kept for around a year, swimming in brine shrimp, and you can see how it pulls up all its oral arms and tentacles into a little flat pancake as it eats. It's a pretty fast process, too.

As one of the largest jellyfish, they have been recorded up to 7ft in diameter and 120ft long. They like cold water, and can be more easily identified by their chaotic mass of tentacles compared to other jellyfish with more regular patterns.

Teeny and the most venemous jellyfish in the world. Tiny darts, known as nematocysts, are lined up in the tentacles and will shoot out when prey is sensed, like a gun. While the Chironex Fleckeri box jellyfish is considered the most deadly, this little guy is likely more painful.

The classic large jellyfish often seen in public aquariums, and quite common in Monterey Bay California

This guy was one of 6 bay nettles I kept in a home jellyfish aquarium for around a year

Saw quite a lot of them in around 2m deep water. Looks like Phyllorhiza punctata but then with reversed colours. About 15cm long. Didn't seem very dangerous, as in I saw no one screaming in agony.

Not my picture, but the only one I could find.
