3rd gen iPod not charging over USB (self.ipod)

I have a 3rd Gen iPod (classic). It came with a firewire cable and charger which seems to charge it fine, but it doesn't seem to charge over USB. Is that typical of these devices or is there something wrong with mine? Its just inconvenient to charge with the firewire cable, I wish it could use any 30 pin to USB cable.

PSA, instead of buying from EOE in the US, buy from Taobao or Alibaba. (self.ipod)

EOE is what everyone recommends but he is just drop shipping from Chinese manufactures. Can save 90% of the cost!

I’m hoping to get more involved in Lemmy and the iPod community! There is a lot of fun to be had in rebuilding old iPods. I hope to foster that community here. I enjoyed the subreddit but do not see a presence here.
