Summary:

February 2560. The wreckage of the UNSC Mortal Reverie served as a central rally point and home to human survivors on Zeta Halo, but it was only a matter of time before it was also overrun by the Banished. 👑 New Mode: Firefight King of the Hill – A team of players battles against Banished forces to capture and maintain control of a zone. Skulls, which act as gameplay modifiers, can be earned or lost when capturing the hill. Matchmaking playlists for this map contain an all-new map based on the House of Reckoning and a new networking model.

⚕ New Equipment: Repair Field – When deployed, the Repair Field equipment sticks to a surface then creates a spherical zone in which both players and vehicles are healed. The Repair Field heals Spartans and vehicles regardless of team affiliation.

🌐 Customs Browser: Fireteam Joining – If enough player slots are open, Fireteam Leaders can now bring their Fireteam with them when joining a match listed in the Customs Browser menu. This will allow groups of players to join Customs Browser sessions without needing to leave their existing Fireteam.

🎯 Forge: Bosses and High Value Targets – 20+ bosses and High Value Targets from the Halo Infinite Campaign can now be added to Forge maps.

💀 Forge: Skull Nodes – Skulls, which originally acted as gameplay modifiers in the Halo Infinite Campaign, can now be added to Halo Infinite multiplayer maps via Forge's Node Graph menu.

⚔ Forge: Team-based Auto-Turrets – The Auto-Turret object will now attack players according to its Set Team option.

🛑 Forge: Scalable Blocker Objects – Blocker objects can now be scaled to different sizes. This change will allow map creators to place less blockers on their map and thus improve performance.

🖌 Forge: Global Material Swatches – All Forge objects now have a large list of material swatches. This allows older objects to utilize newer materials, and regions that were previously incompatible with tiling materials to now use them.

☣ Infection Custom Game Improvements – Several new options have been added to the Custom Games Mode Editor menu for the Infection game mode. Examples include:
• Various new traits for Survivors, Infected, and the Last Spartan Standing.
• Players can now disable Iratus's announcements in Infection. • The Danger Zone feature can now be enabled and customized in Infection.

🎖️ Ranked Demotion Protection – When a player moves up to the next rank tier, they will now have three "protected" matches where a loss will not return them to their previous rank. This change only applies to rank tiers, such as Silver, Gold, or Platinum, and does not apply to sub-tiers such as Silver I, Silver II, etc.

⚖ Penalty Changes for Uneven Ranked Matches - If you were on a Fireteam with the first player who left an in-progress match, you will lose 5 CSR points upon losing or leaving. If the player who left the match was not on your Fireteam, you will lose 0 CSR points upon losing or leaving. All players who leave an uneven Ranked match after the first player leaves will not be at risk of an automated matchmaking ban.

🔇 Ranked Extraction Game Mode Changes – Starting with this update, players in a Ranked Extraction match will notice the following changes: • Players can no longer hear the enemy team converting the Extraction Device from any position on the map. • The heads-up display (HUD) element showing the current progress of the Extraction Device's activation or conversion is no longer visible in the Ranked Extraction variant.

🎨 Multi-Core for Additional Coatings – 94 Armor Coatings, 45 Weapon Coatings, and 24 Vehicle Coatings. can now be used on any Armor, Weapon, or Vehicle Core. The full list of updated Coatings is available in the full patch notes article.

🐞 Resolved Issues – 60+ bug fixes in this update, including: • Improved stability for Halo Infinite on both Xbox consoles and PC. • Reduced instances of getting “Unable to join” errors when joining sessions via the Customs Browser menu. • Players can now set base and power equipment to have infinite charges during Custom Game matches. • Switching between the main menu's tabs no longer results in missing lighting or effects in the Play tab. • Players' Spartan Voiceprint selection will no longer revert to the default Voiceprint when Halo Infinite is relaunched. • The Bandit Evo's scope is now consistently visible upon being picked up from the ground or a Weapon Rack.

TLDR:

Ranked Demotion Protection: Whenever you rank up into a new division (Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, or Onyx) you will get a grace period of three games, win or lose, as a bit of safety net and you won’t get demoted into the prior division.

Ranked Quit Penalty Adjustments: If someone in your game but not on your fireteam quits, they will still receive the max penalty, but you will not lose any CSR.

These will launch with the mid-season update.

Two playlist slots rotated, and several other playlists were updated on November 28, 2023:

Big Team Battle (BTB) rotational playlist: Big Team Social has rotated out, Big Team Heavies has rotated in.

Free-For-All (FFA) rotational playlist: Lone Wolves has rotated out, and Rumble Pit has rotated in.

The Halo 3 Refueled playlist will remain available for an additional week. It is now scheduled to rotate out of matchmaking on December 5, 2023.

The maps featured in the Halo 3 Refueled playlist have been added to the following playlists:

  • Quick Play

  • Super Fiesta

  • Tactical Slayer

  • Team Doubles

  • Team Slayer

Synopsis:

HISTORIAN’S NOTE: Battle for the Blood-Moon takes place in early 2560, in the wake of the events of Halo: Outcasts and the opening of Halo Infinite where the UNSC Infinity is ambushed by the Banished and Cortana sacrifices herself, moving Zeta Halo into slipspace.

As the title says, you will need to purchase the pass to continue progress on it when the Combined Arms operation launches next week. If you have already purchased the S5 pass, you will be able to switch between it and other passes as normal.

The Combined Arms operation will last five weeks (ends Dec 19, when Winter Contingency launches) and will have its own free 20 item track to progress on, a premium option will be available to unlock a premium-only item, keep the operation pass forever, award bonus xp during the duration of the operation, and to unlock an extra challenge slot for the duration of the operation.
