Following an early Pixel 9 series launch in August, it’s now being reported that the mid-range Pixel 9a could launch as soon as March 2025, the earliest release date in the lineup’s history.

On Android 14 (Pixel 9), looking around the "settings/Default apps" and I see ""Default caller ID and spam app" is set to "none" instead of the "phone" app.

Did anyone set it to "phone"? It seems it should be that way, so I wonder why it's not already?

Some say older pixels (4 or 5) have longer battery life and no (or minimal?) overheat issues when compared to Tensor chip devices. Is this true?

I haven't tried any pixels yet and I'm planning to buy one even if its one of the old Snapdragon phones if that is recommended. I plan to use the device for long duration of video recording. So something with good camera and doesn't overheat.

Over the past few weeks (months, idk?) my phone (Pixel 8) gives me a message that says "Charging on hold to protect the battery" when the phone is not plugged in. The notification stays forever until I select "override" to dismiss the safety feature. It will not charge (if I later plug it in) until I say "override". When I say override, it will let me charge, but I will still see the notification again later, so it appears to be a temporary override.

This morning, I saw the notification pop up while I was using the phone. It was in my hands, not plugged in, and did the animation like I had just plugged in the phone to charge. It was at about 45% battery, so it also seems to have nothing to do with battery percent.

Am I just charging wrong, or I don't understand how smart charging works, or is this incorrect behavior? In normal circumstances, I charge the phone overnight. Since this has begun, I have begun leaving it off the charger overnight and instead charging it earlier in the evening for a bit then removing it before bed. I've noticed recently that it only charges to 80%, so it is usually very low when I get home.

I currently have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and I want to switch to an Android phone.

First of all, I eliminated all Chinese phones. Since Samsung has limited custom rom support, I gave up on that too. At the end, I decided to get a Pixel because of its GrapheneOS support.

But right now I'm stuck between Pixel 8 and 9. There's a big price difference with small improvements. I can afford both but not sure if Pixel 9 is worth it. What do you think?

Picking the right third-party charger for the Pixel 9 Pro XL is nigh on impossible, thanks to some very specific power requirements.

I finally decided I should complain about the almost weekly, and getting worse, networking issues (a reboot fixes it, though nothing else will). After talking to Google, they suggested I send the device in for repairs. "Uh.. ok. How many spare phones do YOU have?" "Let me see if there's an alternative".

So they sent me a replacement, putting a hold on my card so I send back mine. Sure. I can live with that.

New (refurbished, I'm pretty sure) phone arrived today. Spent the day reinstalling everything. The bank apps are the worst...

A little while ago, while watching a movie at home, I noticed the phone was constantly (like every few minutes) rebooting. Sigh.

Guess I'll be calling Google again tomorrow. What a pain.

I have Firefox Mobile as my default browser. I clicked the Activate now button from the email in the Gmail app. It just opened the Play Store.

I copied the url from the button into Google Chrome and it just opened the Play Store.

I set my default browser to Google Chrome and clicked the button and the activation process started and I got it to work.

Has anyone got the free Google Fi LTE activated on the Google Pixel Watch 3 without having Google Chrome as the default browser?

Google has changed how Battery Share, the company’s implementation of reverse wireless charging, works on the Pixel 9, no longer allowing it to function while the phone is being charged over a wire.

After having the XL versions of Pixels before this one, the size isn't so bad. Its usable in one hand and I've been really liking the flat edges/screen.

The battery is almost the same as my 6 Pro toward the end of its life.

The display resolution looks really good in person. I really appreciate the brighter screen so that more than makes up for the lack of sharpness compared to the 6 Pro.

Cameras are great as usual for these phones. I didn't realize how many features they added on to Pixels since the 6 line.

The AI features are gimmicky and I'll just leave it at that.

A solid 8/10 phone for me. Definitely feels like an upgrade even for a base model.

How's everyone liking/disliking theirs?
