Reading this article got me thinking, I wonder what's the craziest thing someone's found while geocaching? I know of someone who stumbled across a grow-op in the woods while hunting for a cache, another geocacher said he found a gun once. Has anyone actually discovered treasure? Please share your wild stories!

Ever since I started this hobby, I just can't look at an empty jar/pill bottle/tupperware without something in the back of my head screaming "check if there's a log book inside"! At least these are being put to good use...

Can you spot it?

I've found lots of TB hotels that I like over the years, but this one really takes the cake. It's the end point of a mystery and locked with a padlock, so it's rare for anything to go missing. It's inside a public building, so always dry and in great condition. And it's central enough to usually be within walking distance whenever I visit the city.

Anyone else have a cache they liked enough to visit more than once?

This was definitely one of the crazier bushwhacks I've done lately... was able to walk right up to within 20 metres of GZ, but those last 20 metres took about 15 minutes of climbing over dense, absolutely pathless foliage. I had my doubts on finding this because there were several prior DNFs, but in the end it felt very worth it for an almost 3 years lonely find.

There it is!

Saw this blog post and started wondering; Why don't people log DNFs? I tend to always log a DNF. Of course there are exceptions, like constant interruptions in a busy area or it start chucking it down with rain less then a minute into the search.

I also find it nice to see what caches you have tried on the map, it makes it easier to adjust expectations on the second try and allow for more time.

What are your thoughts?

Exactly one year ago today, thousands of geocachers and explorers gathered in Seattle, Washington, to celebrate over 20 years of geocaching. The official event ended up with over 2,700 Attended logs! Was anyone from Lemmy there, too?

This cache was placed on November 29, 2002. After finding it lying out in the open, I was amazed to discover the original log book still intact, with entries dating back to the FTF (names redacted for privacy):

One of the many things geocachers have in common is a love of getting outdoors and exploring all throughout the year. The natural world can be an unpredictable place, so it’s important to be as prepared as possible to ensure you have a great time!

My kids and I used to do this all the time. Lots of great memories. About the time the geocaching app in the Apple Store stopped working and they created a new subscription app, we quit. Any app recommendations for getting back into this? Anything free out there, or is it all subscription-based?

Just printed myself some passports for a GeoTour in British Columbia's southern gulf islands -- 14 caches, can't wait! Anyone here have a favourite GeoTour they completed? What did it involve?

Recently decided to hike 15km/9mi round trip in some rough terrain to get to a cache and got some nice views along the way. The cache itself had not been found for 5 years and was thankfully all in place.
