Huh. In the list with "fastest growing #Lemmy instances" are only spam instances now

I'm currently creating an instance ban list for Geddit to block those instances if they don't take action.. This is a disaster waiting to happen :lemmy:

As you can see, there is a massive spam wave going on on Lemmey based instances.

This can be avoided by enabling CAPTCHA with signup and also LIMIT the registers per X seconds!

Currently the accounts are idle but this can change soon.. Please take action NOW!

Welcome to Geddit!

Geddit is a community that is created to offer people a new online home where they can safely discus their talks online.

The community runs on the latest version of Lemmy.

At first some house rules

These basic house rules apply on all sub-forums on this instance.

  • No spreading of fake news or misinformation.
  • Sexually explicit or violent media must be marked as sensitive when posting.
  • No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or casteism.
  • No incitement of violence or promotion of violent ideologies.
  • No harassment, dogpiling or doxxing of other users.
  • No illegal content.

About Federation

What does this federation mean?

It means Lemmy is using a protocol (Activitypub) which makes it possible for all Lemmy servers to interact.

  • You can search and view communities on remote servers from here
  • You can create posts in remote communities
  • You can respond to remote posts
  • You will be notified (if you wish) of comments on your remote posts
  • You can follow Lemmy users/communities on other platforms that also use Activitypub (like Mastodon, Calckey etc)

Please note that a server only starts indexing a server/community once it has been interacted with by a user of this server.

About Geddit

Geddit.social is one of the many servers hosting the Lemmy software. It was started on June 18th, 2023 by @[email protected], who is also running https://mstdn.social, https://masto.ai and others.

So even with not so much local content so far there's plenty to read and engage with on the federated

Why should you know this? You might be used to Reddit where you can’t edit titles.

When a post is edited (title or otherwise), a little pencil icon is shown to tell you it’s edited, just like comments.

Added the geddit.social instance to Fediverse Observer to keep track of some data.

An amazing tool for Lemmy users!

Thanks to @[email protected] & @[email protected]

As you can see in c/Ukraine, the banner is of a pretty bad quality. This is the result of automatic conversion from png to webp. Maybe consider making it less aggressive?

P.S. Setting the banner is a pain in the ass. So, sorry about a bunch of uploaded images

Anyone else having issues posting comments? I seem to be able to comment at the top of the thread, but replying to comments it just spins on the posting. Might have been a thread on the mstdn.social account from @[email protected]

Don't you agree it's super annoying it opens in the self tab?

Hey all!

This Lemmy instance has been a pain from the start with issues with sending email from the server itself. After 3 days of digging in code, checking configs and testing I give up.

Yesterday I ran a test on a 'clean' domain and a brand new server with the exact same config files we use on u.fail and it all worked right away..

So.. I've got a new domain 'Geddit.social' and setup a brand new Lemmy instance with all features right out of the box!

If you are on u.fail please be aware this instance will close down soon.

I'm sorry, I really tried fixing the issue

Feel free to signup on https://Geddit.social to continue your journey on Lemmy(from u.fail)

love!
