#Lemmy gets a (new) search engine

It already had search (with some rough edges), but people are already making their own to fill specific needs ... chiefly it seems to replace the Google site: reddit.com search facility.

#Lemmy settles on its big central instance: lemmy.world (#lemmyworld) run by @ruud

Its numbers are now big enough to be counted amongst the top 5-10 masto instances! (https://fedidb.org/network/instance/lemmy.world) as #threadiverse become the “second platform” by size.

Apart from running it well and keeping up to date (recent update seems to have gone well, with a nice example of instances and admins helping each other!?), some redditers seek the big instances?? Curious how communities will adapt.

Federation with #Bluesky (via #ATprotocol) is getting closer.

The sandbox environment has now been launched, which means you can set up your own AT protocol-enabled server.

It's possible that Bluesky will finally start federating by the end of summer. However, knowing how most dev teams work, this launch is not a certainty. It always takes time to iron out bugs.

How successful do you think Bluesky's federation will be? And how will it impact the current userbase using Bluesky?

I'm hearing rumours that #NodeBB is adding support for #ActivityPub. Some folks have told me that this implementation will have group federation capabilities similar to #Lemmy and #Kbin.

I need to investigate this rumour further. If true, this is huge.

At the very least, I know NodeBB is discussing ActivityPub.

Signs of the #RedditMigration in action: Three of the top 6 #Fediverse servers are not only not Mastodon.social but they are not even microblogging servers - but rather are #Threadiverse servers.

That is only seriously good for the entire Fedi infrastructure. Diversity is strength.

For those tracking the #threadiverse (#lemmy and #kbin): beehaw.org has defederated from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works. Both have open registration and accounts have been causing problems on beehaw. Here’s the announcement https://beehaw.org/post/567170

It sounds like the right call to me, at least for now. I get it why everybody wants to have open registration to
make it easy for people migrating from Reddit… but without good mod tools, it’s a recipe for trolling.

#Lemmy just broke 100,000 users!

Right now, it's the 7th most used server software on the Fediverse. It's on pace towards overtaking Pleroma and Microdotblog. And we don't know how much Lemmy growth will happen during the next two days.
