A remote planet in neutral territory, orbiting a yellow star. Water and food are scarce, and erosion from a harsh sun and strong winds have left very little fertile land.
The brutal and unforgiving planet was originally a gulag for political dissidents of the Borealis Company. But after a series of interspatial revolutions fractured a once sprawling and unified civilization, Elimina became a dumping ground for criminals of all kinds.
The original inhabitants of Elimina were brought down on secure transport, stripped of weapons, modern technology and forced to try to survive the harsh planet with nothing but their clothes and a few days of rations.
Two hundred years later, the descendants of the survivors have spread out over the planet, founding sparse, small towns and checkpoints. Motes of humanity across the dry, rocky terrain.
Criminals and dissidents of all kinds are still sent to Elimina, but it’s less of a death-sentence than it used to be. While the planet is relatively lawless and dangerous, some towns have managed to build stability from the wastes.
As civilization has developed, Elimina has attracted entrepreneurs and smugglers from other parts of the galaxy, risking their lives to make their fortunes.
Researchers have taken advantage of new population centers and local industry to form small outposts, from which to study the planet's weather and ecology.
Recent studies have focused on the unique microbiome of the planet, confirming stories and myths of folks with an unusual connection to the planet, a connection which allows them to access abilities which have defied explanation - until now.
