I'm currently running an unraid media server with 3 4TB drives and a single 14TB parity drive. I have only 1TB left so I am looking for a new drive now. Currently I've been looking at a single 12TB drive, but wanted to make sure I'm not wasting my time and money on inefficiency.

Thanks!

Working on an older Macbook with a 2TB Seagate HDD in it. One day the machine just decided to fail at booting (flashing folder with a question mark icon at startup)

Drive is invisible to Disk Utility in recovery mode. Drive is invisible to Disk Utility from within OS X. Drive is invisible to Windows Disk Manager and CrystalDiskInfo as well.

Not sure if it's a total mechanical failure or just corruption. What direction should I be headed to try and recover data? (Can be either Mac or Win utilities, but would prefer Windows)

Side note: note sure if it made a difference or not, but the computer was kept on top of a very large, glass-topped Hi-Fi speaker. I'm not the owner, and it will be replaced with an SSD.
