Didn’t see that one coming. Today I learned that MLB teams really just throw out random draft picks once they run out of actual prospects.

Clemson Athletics had a strong year during the 2022-23 school year. The Tigers won four ACC titles, with football, baseball, men’s track and women’s golf all bringing home crowns.

The Clemson football team knocked off North Carolina in the ACC Championship game, while the baseball team got hot late in the year and pounded Miami 11-5 in the ACC title game. Men’s track edged out Florida State to win its first ACC title since 2004, while the women’s golf team defeated Virginia to win the program’s first ever ACC title.

O’Connell chose the Tigers over Tennessee and Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pounder is the No. 614 overall prospect and No. 46 interior offensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 16 player in Tennessee.

[I]n one of the anonymous interviews, an opposing coach took a jab at the Clemson Tigers over their change at offensive coordinator.

“When you recruit against these guys, all you hear about is ‘family, family, family,’ and him going outside of his group and making the change at offensive coordinator isn’t about family. That’s accepting the reality you’re just another football program, and you have to do things like Alabama and Ohio State to stay relevant with those guys.”

“This is the biggest year for Dabo Swinney since he became a national title winner. They have so many new pieces and philosophical changes.”

Tyson went much higher than many expected him to, but Tigers coach Brad Brownell wasn’t surprised. Brownell had heard rumblings leading up to the draft that teams were high on Tyson.

“We did think he was going to get picked. We had good intel that there were a couple of teams that liked him and his agent had told us that more than likely it was going to happen,” Brownell told On3. “It seemed like he was starting to move up. The closer it got to the draft, it was like, ‘Man, at first we were thinking it might be around 50 or whatnot.’ Then you started hearing it might be in the 40s or possibly even in the 30s.”

Tyson did end up going in the 30s, landing with the NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

Clemson EDGE Greg Williams, who was on scholarship, opted to step away from the program last month.

Williams played 168 snaps in 19 games over four years with the team. He earned his degree in criminal justice in December 2022 and was going to be a fifth-year player for this upcoming season.
