Which clan is best? (self.battletech)
submitted 1 year ago by setsneedtofeed to c/battletech

I am used to the Succession Wars era, but am coming around to the Clan Invasion era. Based simply on the insignia and the basic summary I lean towards Diamond Sharks, but if I am to adopt a clan as a faction, what does everyone suggest as the best and why?

I am not a smart man.

But I love me Urbies. I want to find the best way to utilize them outside of dense urban environments. I've come upon an idea of using them similarly to a "bodyguard" role for assault mechs, but instead of keeping them about on line, to keep them several hexes to the rear. The intention is to shoot up any mech trying to get rear hits on the assault mech. At worst, I figure enemy mechs would target the Urbie, taking away firepower that would otherwise target a more valuable assault mech.

Is this worth the BV? Is it even a situationally viable tactic?

Best Battletech books? (self.battletech)
submitted 1 year ago by setsneedtofeed to c/battletech

I’m relatively familiar with the setting, but I’ve never actually sat down and read any of the books.

I’d prefer something either in the Succession Wars or the Clan Invasion eras.

We called it a draw, as time for play came to a close.

Highlights of the game include the Urbie scoring an AC10 hit on the torso of the Cyclops, and putting it over the edge to take a piloting check which it then failed and fell over. The Cyclops remained on the ground for the rest of the game.

My Atlas also ended up knocked on its face from the combined fire of enemy mechs. It picked itself up, only to be knocked down a second time. The LRM and SRMs were both destroyed in a single round of shooting as critical hits peppered the internals.

The Wasp approached the Urbie and managed to destroy the Urbie’s AC10. The Wasp then tried to disengage so it could attack the Catapult. The Urbie used its jump jets to successfully perform a death from above attack which knocked both mechs down. The Urbie pilot knocked himself unconscious with the attack.

Last night, a Peacekeeper LLC Atlas and long with three subcontractor mechs landed on a periphery planet where suspected local bad actors were hiring unscrupulous mercenaries to further inflame local political unrest.

The Peacekeeper LLC subcontractors included a Shadow Hawk, Wolverine, and Locust. All pilots had been approved by Peacekeeper LLC background screenings.

Upon landing, the lance was immediately met with mercenaries who refused to identify themselves. The opposing mechs were determined to consist of Phoenix Hawk, Wasp, Stalker, and Victor. With unknown loyalty, the opposing lance will be labeled OPFOR for record keeping purposes.

The OPFOR lance closed distance on each other once they were invisual range. The Peacekeeper LLC lance was closer to a wooded area and the majority of the lance stayed near the woodline. The Locust, being the fastest mech on the ground did attempt to run forwar, taking a hit on it's leg armor from the Phoenix Hawk. Undetered, the Locust pilot continued forward, trading fire with the Phoenix Hawk and enemy Stalker intermittently, and was eventually able to get behind the Stalker. It made several attempts to kick it down before rushing forward later in the battle and made similar attempts to kick the enemy victor down. The Locust eventually had a leg blown off by the Stalker's missiles. The Locust pilot was recovered unharmed and approvals are being submitted for the pilot to receive time-and-a-half pay for the duration of combat time.

Meanwhile the rest of the Peacekeeper Lance traded fire with the OPFOR. It was clear the OPFOR were gaining ground toward the Peacekeeper LLC Lance. The Shadow Hawk was able to disable the main gun of the OPFOR Phoenix Hawk by severing off the arm of the mech.

Eventually the Peacekeeper LLC forces engaged in intense close combat in a wooded area.

The OPFOR Victor over the course of the close combat fired it's AC-20 cannon five times. Fortunately, all shots in the engagement were misses.

The Peacekeeper Atlas attempted to fire the AC-20 on the Victor in reply, but also missed. Combat became a series of kicks and punches thrown between the mechs.

Eventually the damaged OPFOR Phoenix Hawk, with it's main gun now disabled attempted an aggressive jump jet assisted melee assault on the Atlas. While it was in mid-air the Atlas turned and fired it's AC-20, critically hitting the Phoenix Hawk dead center and instantly destroying it.

At that point, the OPFOR mechs made a hasty withdrawl. The Peacekeeper LLC lance consolidated a defensive position and began after action reporting.

Note: Big thanks to a friend who provided the majority of the mechs. I only had one suitable mech (the Atlas) painted up for a game this small.

I know the general consensus is that proxies are okay, and I am aware that CGL doesn't seem to care about people printing minis for themselves. I just want to get my facts straight before I open my mouth to my fiancee who runs an etsy store that does 3D printing.

Specifically, I want to know if they have made a statement on the subject anywhere. I am so used to Games Workshop pretending to not care about fan works for several years before suddenly taking legal action on all IP infringers they can find. I no longer trust corporations to be nice, so I want to know if they have ever put in writing what they will and will not tolerate regarding their minis.

Looks like a stand up fight, Commander. 2 companies facing off with equal odds of success. Home-fielders on base have 4 lances plus infantry and aerospace in support, while our attacking force wields equal lances plus armor, jump infantry, and an aerospace fighter in support.

They have the wall advantage on our side, Commander, but I guess the base didn't want lake-maintainance in their budget. We've got a nice cool spot right near our IF# nest egg. We can use both to great effect.

The enemy is afforded more cover, but their greater defense area may be to their detriment, only time will tell.

As always, I'll prepare an after action report to keep you updated on the ongoing fluid strategic state of the modern 3049 battlefield. I have a feeling this data will be sorely needed very soon...

Setting up for an epic 44x38in 800PV face-off in preparation for our campaign using these forces. More to follow...

4 contestants, 16 mechs. You kill a unit, you keep it. Your unit survives, you keep it. Kill the meat, save the metal. 1 mech repair bay behind CR6 walls to refill armor.

Results: PV-predicted outcome, but several interesting ad hoc lance compositions came into play, with speed generally dictating how lances were broken up. Game was halted in time for 4th place to retain their remaining 2 mechs.

Highlight: Axman boxcars the Wraith with a blade to the cockpit, earning second place from the kingmaker.

Hello all! I've been playing a fair amount of AGoAC and I've decided to start looking into running tanks, hovercraft, and such. What's a good resource to learn the basic names of the units and their loadouts? I assume there's a TRO or it's in TW, but I wanted to start by asking here.

Thanks!
