Gears for phones? (self.photography)
submitted 1 year ago by andyli to c/[email protected]

I have never been a real photographer. The last time I owned a camera (not phone) was 10 years ago. Since smartphone became popular, I have always preferred using smartphones because it's easier to carry around.

However, occasionally I do wish I had better gears, mostly lens. I recently moved from a big city to somewhere with more wildlifes, and I'm interested in shooting some bird photos, so I guess I need some good lens with zoom factor. Are there any phone accessories that will allow me to do this?

I'm happy to finally be staying at a place with some options for a nice sunset view! I'm starting to experiment with HDR now that I have a tripod as well. I felt that really helped me bring out the details in the highlights while preserving the nice colors from the night side of things.

Still not sure on the best bracketing to try but I've been liking the look of 0.3 increments in groups of 9. I want to try that with some focus stacking as well at some point...but I think the clouds would have to be pretty still for that!

There's something inherently sassy and amusing about flamingos for me...right down to that squawk. So of course I loved this guy looking at me while he walked away. More processing than I usually do but I really liked the look of the split tones here.

Egret in Flight (live.staticflickr.com)

I've been learning with a 35mm to get sort of that 'frame with your feet' mindset going. Still, makes it tough when that rare opportunity for some wildlife photography presents itself!

Since I couldn't get closer with a zoom lens, I figured I'd try and bring out the movement of the egret through some cropping and processing to contrast against the shadows from the cypress.

Just a night time photo with some light rain that I recently took. I like how it came out.

Took this at my local park with my Nikon D7100. I had never seen a duck like this before, they're not native to my area, but I thought it was gorgeous

Nova Scotia's coastline is dotted with fishing villages and equipment sheds. This one, located just outside Peggy's Cove, sits at the mouth of St. Margaret's Bay, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

This photo's straight out of the camera (Fuji X-T3), with no bespoke processing.

Was riding around in a boat in some chop this weekend and was struck by the lighting and position of this lone cypress tree. Made me feel like it was hanging out in front of the other trees and cane protecting everything.

Bet I cut a funny figure standing in the back of the small rocking boat, barely balancing for a portrait of a tree. I love that nature can still make an impression on a cynic like me!

I spent some time out at Lake Michigan this last Christmas. My first time seeing snow and I definitely wasn't ready for taking photos in this kind of cold. Had to take my gloves off to work the work the camera, snow bits and sand flying towards the lens and I even fell through the ice at the shore!

Still, my time there really makes me want to travel around and take some photos across the USA.

New user here - I'm staying by a lake temporarily and my poodle made friends with another dog here. She's been having a lot of fun learning to swim and I'm having fun learning how to take photos!

I felt like these tones really brought out the laid back and swampy feeling out here.
