I wouldn't discount rust. I've had to change my rotors more frequently than pads due to rust (I drive a Prius). That said, I live in a state that oversalts their roads more than an amateur chef.

I stopped using virtualbox after I discovered my compiles were way faster in WSL2. It was pretty close to native Linux speed, not that I had a great way to compare it.
Is that still true with WSL2? It absolutely was with 1, but when 2 came out everyone said: Forget that we ever had WSL1.

Microsoft doesn't make the bulk of their money from average joes. They make it from companies using their products. But they're not making as much money from companies using really old hardware and versions of windows. Plus one of the biggest IT gripes is getting users to update their OS. This could mitigate much of those problems
I don't know if you have this in your town, but there's an old school shoe store near me that has actual sales people who know their stuff. They've never led me astray.
My current ones are Ecco boots, but I credit the store more than the boots.
