I live in bumfuck Egypt and mostly everybody drives a truck. They are awful, giant, and dangerous. I do not feel that the majority of people that use them actually need them, but everybody has bought into the marketing campaign that in order to be a real man you gotta drive some big fuckoff vehicle.
