Why does everyone besides the involved parties care so much when there are conflicts with much higher casualties in the same region that go largely unnoticed by the international public?

Because what Israel did is unlike what any other nation has done in the past few decades. Killing this many civilians in this little time, attracting schools and hospitals almost daily, that gets the world talking.
