The same bot that makes the post warns itself that making the post it just made is against the rules unless it’s Friday, and it is indeed Friday. Somebody needs to check your code little bro

Human speaking here...

This post is tagged as LGBTQ+ not as a (Fun@Fundies) πŸ’© So why shouldn't it be on the community today? Is it a meme or low-effort post?

I'm a little confused by the title.

I think OP is basically making the rather unintelligent point that "rEaL MuSlImS haTE gAys" based on Islam's homophobic text and teachings... but instead show an example of a Muslim becoming pro-LGBT. Sadly, some ex Muslims have still not accepted that Islam as a text and Muslims as a group of people with experiences can greatly differ.

Yeah, I was kind of confused. This is a constant in most religions. You're completely right. Why are people up voting this?

In r/exmuslim on reddit (from where this post was mirrored), they have had this type of thinking going on for a long time.

There is a point to it: Islamic texts are horrendous. Just like the Bible or the Old Testament, the Quran is clear about homosexuality:

Bible: 1 Corinthians 6:9

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,

Quran: Ash-Shura 25:165-166

Do you approach males among the worlds (165). And leave what your Lord has created for you as mates? But you are a people transgressing." (166)

This is a factual statement. None of us can deny that Islamic and Christian texts and religious history had strong homophobic undertones and prosecuted anyone even remotely LGBTQ+ (and continue to do so in many places in the world today)

However, the thread we're discussing now has taken it a step further: any Muslims who condone homosexuality are wrong Muslims, per their own script.

The whole point of that screenshot and title was to make that Muslim (who has just been able to overcome years of indoctrination and homophobic propaganda by being exposed to the activism and writing of gay authors) look stupid. "Look at these dumb muzzies and how they don't understand their own religion like we atheist ex-Muslims do!" is a phrase you might see often on the reddit branch of this community.

So what started as a legitimate criticism of a religion turned into a tool to encourage and spread Islamophobia. Sometimes it feels like they never want Muslims to grow and find their own path... you either become a full atheist or you're a "wrong, twisted muzzie who doesn't understand Islam". This black/white attitude to it makes me sick, and makes it unbearable sometimes to read through r/exmuslim posts. But if we never put this crap on the table we will never work through it.
