Can we get the option to block communities from our /all feed? I’m sure ich_lel is funny, but I can’t read German, so I’d like to just stop it from showing up on my feed.

Dann wird es wohl Zeit, deutsch zu lernen.

Somehow, the issue gets much stronger feedback in Deutschland. 🥔

I have no idea how to use Github

This link shows a feature that was already done and is waiting to be accepted into the Mlem codebase, the feature is a simple translate button https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/6067331/247935650-732a0151-fcb2-4938-990d-592ba7846f03.PNG

FYI this is in the upcoming Test Flight.

I don’t know if this is what you are looking for, but I just block the communities that I don’t want showing up. I was in the same boat, I don’t speak German so I just blocked it and I haven’t seen a post since.

(Edit)

I had to do it in the web as a lot of the apps don’t have the functionality built in yet.

In the web interface, remember to set your spoken languages to the ones you want to use/see. I didn't know ich_iel had made its way here because I don't have Deutsch as one of my selected languages.

Ah, I see. I’ve been using Lemmy mostly on mobile so I didn’t see the website. I’ll go fix that

This is the correct answer. Thank you!

Not what you asked for but you can set language preference in Lemmy via the web interface; ie English + Undetermined.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Maybe if you remove German from the list of languages in your profile? I haven’t tried to check whether it removes posts from the all feed. Also this would only work if people set the language to German and don’t leave the setting to Undefined.

Also on Mastodon, there is a Translate feature. I don’t know if that may happen also on Lemmy?

Sprich Deutsche du Hurrsonne (or whatever they say I’m not German)
