What if you try Hot or New?
sh.itjust.works Main Community
Home of the sh.itjust.works instance.
Yeah that was the issue, I was on active. Seems like that shouldn't be the default to me? I don't entirely understand what its grabbing with active.
from my understanding, active shows the posts gaining the most comments, but new comments gets the posts ordered by the last time a new comment was added, somewhat similar, but active is a lot slower
You can change the default in your user settings
It does take a long time to load posts from other instances sometimes. Switching to new helps
my fav sort so far is all and new comments. seems to be the best way to get fresh posts right now.
its seems to be pretty normal, esp with load, it took a solid 24-36 hours for all/subed to look different. i get the updated in MASSIVE dumps, just like ol usenet!
Is it just the hoisted ones from your admin? And/or are you filtering by active? I had to switch to new to see this.
I guess I'm filtering by active, does that require the poster to be online?
No expert, but I just assumed it meant somebody had replied recently.
Seems like we might want to make that the default. Active is definitely not working for me. Or at least not in the way I'd expect.
Your default filter can be set in your profile settings.
I guess I more mean a site wide default, IMO making lemmy a good experience out of the box is really important if we want it to become a viable alternative. It's already complicated enough as is.
You're totally right, the active filter is terrible and always shows the same big posts, the default should absolutely be new or hot. The functionality is there but people won't stick around long enough to figure it out if they keep seeing the same 10 posts on their front page.
Yeah I agree. I think the filtering system as a whole could use some reworking. Hopefully now that there is a growing active community to highlight the issues, the devs will be able to pinpoint and optimize the algorithms. Even Hot has issues with randomly throwing loads of 1 year old posts on top, or seemingly treating any new post as “hot”.
It doesn't seem like a fun default for me either.
