Now if only I could get an inflation pegged pay rise, all would be good

unfortunately the point of the measures taken is to drive up unemployment and down wages. they think that will fix the economy, somehow. as if the economy is an abstract set of numbers and not the mechanism by which we keep everyone housed, fed, clothed, and warm

I know this is the FED's goal in the US including interest hikes (as well as lowering consumer spending, which remains quite high), are similar policies/goals being implemented in the UK as well? Not as familiar with their economy, or government control on their economy.

Even so, the only way my wage is going to keep up with inflation is through promotion. It stiffs people who just want to keep doing what they're good at and not fail upwards.

Yay, they're accelerating slightly less at screwing us all over.

Although it should be noted that supermarkets probably aren't taking the lion's share. Ever since Tesco started diversifying through the supply chain, most of the profits have been squirrelled away in the middle - farmers aren't paid very much for their supply, meanwhile public facing stores pay over the odds for their products, but the manufacturers make mint (while substituting eg horse meat). And all the profits are paid for by the consumer.

Glad to see.
