I'm a total beginner. Studied German for a bit in High School but never really got into it. Been thinking about actually learning it, at least to be able to understand some basic stuff.

So does anyone have any recommendations that could be useful/ have been helpful for you?

Try to befriend a german online, maybe somebody who wants to learn your language in return so you could take turns talking in either language. Not sure if that makes sense.

It makes sense to have someone else you could talk with.

Youtube has free courses in German as well as german movies with subs. This is a free course for beginners: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF9mJC4RrjIhS4MMm0x72-qWEn1LRvPuW and there are many more :)

German is a complex language to learn by yourself. I highly recommend courses or classes with multiple people in them. I used to teach in these language schools. They usually work quite nicely. A private teacher is also a good idea. I don't have much good to say about tandems or study groups but your milage may vary.
