The keyboard is a bit buggy, won’t always disappear or appear when you want it to. Spotlight sometimes messes up and Carplay maps start off way too zoomed in or out. Otherwise, no real notable problems.
Apple
Here you can talk about Apple's ecosystem, Apple's OSs (Operating Systems), Apple's apps, Apple's everything!!
The keyboard is whats buggy for me as well, no specific app as it seems to be all of them at seemingly random times. Most other things have been pretty stable for me. Carplay i use waze so i didnt notice the maps issue.
It’s been very stable for me and battery life seems improved. The only real issue I’ve noticed is in Safari where the search/url bar doesn’t always pop up with the keyboard, and vice versa.
I usually install beta versions on my iPad as I don't use my iPad for anything important. iPadOS has been okay, but it's definitely a beta (obviously). Beta 2 introduced ugly borders to images in Safari on many websites, for example.
I don't recommend installing it on devices you use for anything remotely important.
I usually wait a few beta release to try on my actual device. But idk for some reason do not feel super confident with 17.
Keyboard is buggy for me, and i have a timer stuck in the dynamic island i can’t get removed even after a restart, but it’s pretty good.
Keyboard is a bit buggy, obscuring UI sometimes. And Mail.app has been draining a lot of battery since Beta 2, I just set Fetch to Manual, gonna see if that improves it.
Other than that, I've not been having any big issues, save for a few graphical glitches. For me it's worth it alone due to getting watchOS 10. (:
I’ve only experienced the keyboard bug in the Element app, and I just assumed it was because that app, itself, is pretty buggy. Thanks for the insight.
In Element you can at least swipe the chat down to hide the keyboard. Unfortunately that doesn't work in every app (there really should be a standard way to hide the keyboard imo...).
that dosn't work for me-- my workaround it to rotate my phone sideways and back again, lol
Ohh, I'll have to try that as well. Thanks! Also I can't get it to happen right now, but I swear that worked in Element. Will remember to check next time it happens.
Is the keyboard bug super annoying or just meh enough it’s not something to worry about?
Personally I think it's tolerable, it happens infrequently enough that I don't mind closing the view with the active textbox or restarting the app if that doesn't do it
I’ve had almost no bugs on my iPhone 14 Pro. A couple of very tiny minor bugs that don’t bother me at all like when I put it in “stand “mode, sometimes the screen turns off, but only for a couple minutes then it comes back on, it’s a little weird that way.
Are you using it on your daily iPhone? Or a secondary?
daily. runs pretty trouble-free for me.
Awesome thanks! I’ll look into it more now then.
I was on the beta for like a day but it was kind of buggy and the keyboard sometimes didn’t work. Luckily it didn’t backup to iCloud yet so I was able to use iTunes and downgrade back to iOS 16 and restore from iCloud.
I agree on the slightly buggy keyboard but other than that the first 2 dev betas have been more stable for me than 16.5 was.
I think I’ll wait for the first public beta based on feedback I’ve seen regarding the dev betas.
Been on the developer beta since release. It was quite buggy, especially with the keyboard just not existing at times, forcing me to quit and re-launch signal a lot. Since beta 2 though it has been so much better. Not gonna say there aren’t any issues but it is more stable and not a pain to live with now.
Also, I never had battery issues on the 13 pro max, maybe that was an issue for people on the 14 only? That or I never used it enough to notice the battery difference.
I am. It has been pretty smooth on my iPhone 12 pro max. The new ML in the photos app is pretty cool
NameDrop works and has a very cool animation. Battery is better than beta 1 and keyboard bug is gone for me. iPhone 11
