When I worked on these, the stylus had a "tip switch," as it was called, that would tell the computer when the tip was pressed. Based on that and the video, I would get a replacement stylus and see if that helps.

Just make sure it's compatible. I think they need to be USI, but now there are multiple USI versions (I think 1.0 and 2.0, but don't quote me!)
