Are there subreddit/lemmy communties on nostr? If so how does it work? (self.nostr)

nostr seems like a twitter, instagram and youtube platform were the content flows like this...

user -> post -> comments

Where the user have an account and posts content which others can like, dislike and comment on.

However reddit and lemmy flows like this...

community -> post -> comments

Communities are moderated by one or more users. Moderators can remove posts and comments in their communities to keep the communities subject from going off topic.

With all of this being said here are my questions...

  1. Is it possible to create communities on nostr
  2. Can you have two communities with the same name? Does each community have a unique ID like nostr accounts have a unique public key?
  3. Can one or more users moderate a community? Can the moderators delete posts and comments in their community?
  4. Can a community not allow anyone but moderators to post in the community?

Going from Reddit sites to Twitter sites, I think you have to adapt from communities to hashtags instead

Not really. The Nostr protocol does have a recently added specification for it though; see Nostr NIP 72.

There are only a couple clients that dabbling in it; satellite.earth.

The answers to your questions are:

  1. Yes
  2. Communities can have same name because they do use unique ids.
  3. Yes, multiple mods can moderate and delete (really just an unapproval).
  4. Yes (by not approving anything they prevent posting - kind of).
