Reddit didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment. According to Reddit spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt, “We’ll no longer comment on hearsay, unsubstantiated claims, or baseless accusations from The Verge. We’ll be in touch as corrections are needed.” In the absence of corrections, then, you can assume Reddit believes none are necessary.

"Attacking our users didn't work, so let's attack the journalists reporting on us attacking our users!"

Wow, Reddit really has so many professional people working for them.

It makes me wonder if those layoffs last month were their entire PR department

Spez is inspired by the Elon playbook, so it checks out.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

So Reddit are really embracing the Elon's approach to PR, perhaps they have forgotten they haven't had their IPO yet.

That's a big brain move right there, that's sure to work I bet.

I don't think Reddit could have handled this worse than they are. Those who are against Reddit may be a vocal minority, but in terms of moderation and content creation Im hoping we are the majority and Reddit slowly dwindles as spam and bots take over and content dries up.

Agreed. I feel like someday this incident is going to be taught to MBA students as a 'what not to do'.

I’m going to use today’s submarine incident as a crude metaphor.

For the sake of all those trapped inside, I hope the implosion is extremely fast and humane. No need to prolong suffering. It could and should be a hard lesson for CEO’s trying to cut corners to get rich, avoiding the advice of experts.

Though, unlike the submarine, I believe Spez can actually still sink lower.

I mean, this just makes sense. If you are a content creator on reddit then you are subject to reddits whim, meanwhile content creators on lemmy get to choose an instance that moderates/admins closer to their needs and if that instance stops being useful to them for whatever reason, they can just pack up and move to another one. The more we scale the more prominent this effect will be and as long as we have some amount of organic growth we are destined to outcompete reddit I think.

What sane person would possibly invest in a company like this?

Ignoring how inept they’ve been throughout this whole ordeal, they don’t even have control over their own site! It’s pathetic

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Based on how many people invested in GameStop, AMC, and Bed, Bath, And Beyond, there is clearly a large number of dumbass retail investors. Too bad that’s unlikely to be enough to make a good IPO.

The changes include no longer requiring users to do basic research and lowering the standard for what the subreddit counts as spam.

I bet this is to fight against mass edit tools. I actually used one to edit all the comments I ever wrote. Got flagged seconds after by the subreddit of Fear The Walking Dead, permabanning me for spam.

Personally I don't care. At least now they don't have my data anymore.

Never have i seen a social media site die so fast due to one idiot and a side helping of corporate greed

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Spez is a complete bitch (this was already known) but what a clown Reddit's spokesperson is. It's a shitshow, top to bottom

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Let it die, Let it die, let it shrivel up and die!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

A large part of the value of Reddit is in the user base's hands. This idea that social media sites monetize user-created content without giving back to the user base has been around for a while but with Reddit it's more obvious because it is a topic-specific discussion site.

moved to bad ai memes. we arent your normal sub, the mods are the only content contributors, forcing us to open and keep going is even bigger BS.

Attacking our mods 🎵 attacking our users 🎵 attacking the journalists who report the matter 🎵

History tells us that dictators attack journalists, so Reddit after all?
