Usually I just upload stuff to social media without thinking about it twice. Here, though, devs require user donations to keep the servers running.

So im wondering, if I intend to post a videogame clip, is it recommended to upload it elsewhere and then link it here? Or am i overthinking this and I should just upload my clutches?

Edit: Looking at Lemmy's Documentation, Not only they recommend Peertube, but also PixelFed for uploading larger images and videos.

where possible, it'd be courteous to host things off the site yeah (we're not picky about where you do this, as a general rule). we don't have our picture storage completely sorted out yet (working on it!) and we believe it's the last hurdle causing some of the errors people are running into at this point. hopefully we can get to a point pretty quickly though where none of what i'm describing matters though

Small images being uploaded here are fine. The more you can upload large things elsewhere the cheaper it'll be to run this service, so we'd greatly appreciate it!
