Rule 3 - Keep post and comments relevant

Posts must be related to Plex and Plex-related products, apps. etc. Try to keep comments relevant to the parent comment and to the post.

Rule 4 - Keep discussions of "media aqcuistion" limited to means and methods only.

Discussions regarding media acquisition should be limited to the "how" not the "what", as this is not the place to discuss piracy of specific media. Posts/comments discussing specific acts of piracy ("How do I find X show?" or "Where can I download Y film?")will be removed. For further clarification see this post

Ooooh.

I’ve just spent the day installing Synology DSM on a passively cooled micro pc with a Pentium N3510 and 4gb of ram.

I haven’t had a chance to test performance yet. Certainly not 4K capable but that’s okay. If it can handle 1080p I’ll mark it a win.

Sonarr and Radarr in dockers on DSM.

12tb USB attached HDD.

I’m not sure if this will be a permanent setup. Will depend what the 1080p performance is like.

But I had the box sitting in the cupboard and I’m really keen to cut ties with streaming services

I’d have loved to go all 4k myself, but I just don’t have the storage capacity for it atm. plus, even with my 4K tv, I just don’t see such a huge difference between 4K and 1080. I have a small apt so I don’t have a huge tv. if I did, I’d notice I more, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeh I’m similar. I’ve found that yeh it looks a bit better but at 10x the storage it starts being really cost prohibitive for a small benefit.

On a side note, I’ve got the server up and running and it crushes 1080p. No performance issues at all.

Absolutely insane from a 7.5w TDP cpu. Seven POINT five watt.

I’m still rocking a 2011 iMac for my server a a ghastly 350W. I hate it. it’s slow af, but kills it for my needs, which will hopefully last until I can afford to replace it. it’s been my server for the last 12 years… I ran a - get this - a Pentium 4 4GHz before that as my Plex server!

Currently have everything in a Node 804 sitting on a shelf in the office. Will be racked soon, along with everything else, to save space. Nothing too crazy

Hardware:

  • Ryzen 7 3700x
  • B550 mATX board
  • 32GB RAM
  • 2x WD Red Pro 6TB (1 parity)
  • 6x WD Red 4TB
  • 2x Samsung EVO 1TB cache pool

Services:

Plex, Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, Deluge, Overseerr, Tautulli, PMM, Homarr, plus a few other random ones I mess around with.

Running all services through docker integration in Unraid OS.

Have an old Dell Optiplex with a E3-1200 Xenon running esxi with 32GB RAM and an Nvidia k620.

  • Ubuntu server VM running Plex
  • Ubuntu server VM running sonarr/radarr, Jackett and Qbit
  • Synology DS412+ with 4x 4TB drives using SHR

Just got a smoking deal on a DS1819+ that I'll be loading with 12TB drives.

My setup is extremely simple 😅

  • A Synology DS218play (5 years old at this point)
  • 2x6 TB Western Digital Red in RAID1
  • Plex package from plex.tv, installed through Synology Package Center
  • an Apple TV 4K as a client

Runs smooth up to 4K SDR but HDR is too much for it. Mainly using to watch recorded media.
