Wasn't it originally Alien Blue but Reddit bought it out and like all corporate tech companies that subsume smaller entities, they fucking ruined it?
Yup. I used to use Alien Blue heavily and the UI tweaks that Reddit did to it made it a subpar experience from what it was from the start. I preferred the greater information density, I didn’t need to see the thumbnail images as large as they were, it made poor use of space on the iPad, and I couldn’t swipe back and forth anymore. I continued to use Alien Blue as long as I could and then switched to Apollo.

Sounds like it got Yahoo'd!
Is it THAT bad?
It's worse
People live to shit on the official app but in terms of UI and functionality is good.
It's far from perfect, but it is very usable.
Same for the "new Reddit" website. It's garbage. I exclusively use old.reddit and have since the beginning, on desktop and on mobile. If that goes away I'm done. I like Lemmy, but honestly old Reddit has a better interface. I wish Lemmy didn't confine itself to 50% of the screen width, it's a stupid modern design trend and I hate it. At least give us a wide Lemmy option.
I used new Reddit for, like, a week, before getting fed up with its sluggishness and switched back to old Reddit.
