Don’t put the answer in the title!

You can give a clue in the title of your post, but please don’t ruin the game.

Spoiler tag your solutions.

There are two ways to do this, take your pick:

1. NSFW your screencaps.

NSFW blurs images so answers aren’t revealed automatically when you load the front page.

(This is a workaround since Lemmy doesn’t support spoiler-tagging image posts.)

2. Use the body spoiler code.

If you don’t want to NSFW the whole post, you can spoiler within the body text and put your solution there. Here’s the format:

You can upload your screencap directly into the body text. Just hit the picture icon in the formatting bar and it will insert that second line of code for you. So all you have to enter manually is the

spoiler spoiler at the top.

(I understand this is a bit fidgety, so if you’d rather just stick to the NSFW method for now, that’s perfectly fine.)

Thanks and enjoy!

You no longer have to risk seeing porn on your frontpage just to participate here! Yay?

The reason I switched NSFW on was to protect you from accidental spoilers. The Lemmy platform does not have a native spoiler image tag yet, and I thought if the whole community was NSFW, then the image blur would apply automatically on new posts, similar to how AutoModerator spoiler tags all new posts on Reddit.

What I wasn’t counting on was app support, or lack thereof. Some apps ignore the NSFW tag altogether, the answers don’t get blurred regardless, so the tag is pointless.

Worse, other apps don’t show NSFW communities at all, not unless you dig into their settings, and they each handle things a little differently. I couldn’t figure out how to get here on some apps at all.

I also think being NSFW lowered our visibility on the platform as a whole. It makes sense that if most people hide NSFW by default, they’d never even know we exist.

So for all these reasons, I decided to uncheck NSFW for the whole community again.

That said, please do continue to mark your screencap submissions NSFW so you get some blur support at least. It may not be consistent across apps, but it’s the best we can do until Lemmy implements a proper image spoiler flair.

Thank you for reading, and I hope this makes the community easier to use going forward. Happy two-solving!
