Thanks a lot for the great app.
Quick question that isn't related to the update, any future plans of open sourcing the app?

Quick question that isn't related to the update, any future plans of open sourcing the app?
I actually haven't given it much thought since the original release of the app. I think I'm less opposed to the idea since the app's inception but I still have some concerns about it. In particular I want to stress this is just a fun side project for me and I want to keep it that way so the less administration, etc I need to do the better for me.
One thing I know I will have to do the second I open source the app is I'm going to have to start to upload to F-Droid as well. I need some time to figure out how much work that adds.
Also if I do open source it I will not be accepting any PRs so I'm also worried people will be mad at me for that.
Looks like F-Droid has some rules such as
Note that frequently app tracking is implemented using proprietary software, e.g. Google Analytics or Flurry. Apps containing these proprietary libraries will not be found in the F-Droid repo.
While not difficult I would need to built separate versions for the Play store vs F-Droid otherwise the app will not be allowed on F-Droid (Summit for Lemmy uses Firebase for crash reporting by default).
This would make it an instant favorite for me! I think most people would be fine with limited developer interaction as long as they can post/discuss issues, but would be more comfortable with the project being open source.
Agreed.
I don't mind a developer that does not take pr from others. But it would be a nice piece of mind when it's open source.
The developer is curryvery active, communication is too notch, and having a look at the future road map would be amazing.
If the concern is that one day i will not updating the app entirely, i can do what i did for another project i worked on. Which is to promise that if that day comes i will fully open source the project. It sort of sucks since you have to trust me but it might be better than nothing.
By the way you can already see the roadmap. Its one of the posts pinned in this community. https://lemmy.world/post/23930346
Didn't know about the roadmap post.
Thanks a bunch. Great app and developer as always.
I love your app! It has everything except the ability to swipe while in the post detail view to go to the next post. Is that possible for you to add? That one thing would make this app perfect.
I'll add it to the roadmap
