Yes it’s primarily a desktop UI. I personally love it on my widescreen and use it as my default frontend for lemmy.
I'd love to see Alexandrite and/or Photon as official front-ends for lemm.ee (e.g. a.lemm.ee)!
Yeah, it's good. You may also want to try Photon, which is also really good and is in very quick development.
