A place to meme about the glorious ROMAN EMPIRE (and Roman Republic, and Roman Kingdom)! Byzantines tolerated! The HRE is not.

  2. Memes must be Rome-related, not just the title. It can be about Rome, or using Roman aesthetics, or both, but the meme itself needs to have Roman themes.

I thought they added two months, July (for Julius) and August, not renamed, thus fucking up September, October, November and December being the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th month.

March used to be the first month of the year. July and August used to be called Quintilis and Sextilis.

King Pompilius is to blame for the mix-up because he added January and February before the first month of the year.

The two months were only temporary, the Roman calendar had 12 months before the Julian Calendar. The Julian Calendar's two temporary months was just to unfuck the calendar, as the months had become out-of-sync with the actual seasons. July was renamed after Caesar's death (originally Quintilis) and August renamed after Augustus took power (originally Sextilis)

January and February are the added months, but they were added hundreds of years before Caesar was born. The numbers were always borked, lmao

For bonus points, Augustus isn't even his birth name. It's not even his adoptive name (as he was adopted by his great-uncle, Gaius Julius Caesar). It was a name he pushed the Senate to give him - meaning 'exalted'. A truly humble man, our Emperor Augustus!
