I have to say, I don't often hit the Anvil native with the stock stem, but if you need a throat-tickle like you used to get in the combustion days, look no further...
How does the Anvil compare to something like the Vapcap? Does it have an analog clicker like the Vapcap?
I've heard a bit about the Anvil but not much.
Good question! It actually has a much more distinct click, and 'they' say this vape is all about riding the line (RTL, for those unfamiliar with the phrase, means "riding the line" between vaping and combustion, so a full spectrum big hit is the goal. Not for temp steppers!); which the clicks facilitate.
It uses convection, mostly; the actual chamber is kinda suspended in the oven - you heat the oven, then inhalation draws hot air through the chamber, vaopourising the material.
It has some detractors, largely (as often seems to be the case in vaping world) based on the maker, Vestratto, which I won't rehash here, but in that respect is remarkably similar to recent drama surroudnding Dynavap and Simrell, for instance. So there are parallels that extend beyond the form factor/tech!
I think it's not too controversial to say that most of those who hate it don't have one and wouldn't get one, while those who have one tend to love it and discount the drama.
I love it! i actually use it most on a Simrell MVS, I find it smoother than the stock stem.
Lol Gotcha. Yeah so that tells me they have the clicker set to a higher trigger temp than the Vapcap caps.
For butane convection, I still prefer the Lotus vaporizer. You wanna talk about RTL - when you're good enough with the torch you can actually watch vapor production increase exponentially until you flashover to combustion. One of my party tricks was vaping with a j-hook (with a pinch of water) and having friends guess if I had combusted or not. I never did, but I could get that sucker pitch black (without any ash).
Yeah I seem to recall a bit of drama around Dynavap/Simrell, etc. I try to stay out of all that b2b drama and keep my nose down. Yes companies like Pax and others have copied my designs, but what am I going to do about it? Huff and puff? Nah, I'm simply making something new and better to attract people's attention.
Yeah, iirc the clicker is in the top of the chamber, not in the oven, and there's a lot of thermal mass in the copper core overn, so by the time you get that click it's had a fair bit of time to heat-soak.
For reference, using my single flame torch it typically takes around 45 seconds or so to get to the first click on the Anvil, versus 20-something for my Dynas.
How does it compare with a stock Dyna? I'm very new to the game and though I'm more than happy with the Dyna, I'm also curious about both the Anvil and the Elev8r.
Lol leaning hard into the butane game eh? Have you tried any electronic dry herbal vaporizers or was the vapcap your first?
Well I tried a few different vapes in the past but at that point I didn't really give them a fair shake - they were just a novel way to smoke and weren't satisfying.
Now that I "get it" I'm anxious to try some others, but I'm very restricted on budget, and Im wary of more complicated devices as that usually just means it is likely to fail or have shit that needs a lot of maintenance/upkeep, etc.
I've tried a Volcano, a PAX, and a Crafty+ in the past, but it was a single sesh for each of them.
So the Volcano, and Crafty+ can certainly get the job done for the average ent. Especially compared to a device like a Vapcap.
Sometimes it's actually good to cycle through devices once or twice a year to avoid building up too much of a "tolerance" to the device (where it's use becomes habitual - load sizes, frequency, draw frequency, hold patterns, temperatures, etc all become habitual). Switching up devices helps reset your own tolerances.
Butane devices certainly give a great bang for the buck. The Lotus vaporizer was one of my favorite butane powered devices which uses heated convection airflow instead of conduction heating like the vapcap and anvil. Problem with the Lotus was that it is VERY finicky about torch control - gotta keep torch moving in circle or figure-8 to avoid overheating one section and combusting (it was one vape I NEVER shared with friends). The Lotus actually went out of business a few years ago but they were acquired by Vapman and recently came back on the market.
But there are certainly plenty of devices on the market these days, not like ten years ago when there was less than a dozen options in total for high end herbal vaporizers haha.
If budget is restricted the Anvil is probably not the vape you are looking for! That is one of the probably valid criticisms that can be levelled at it, and at Dyna too for that matter.
I have never tried a Volcano or Crafty, but I have a Mighty, and the OG Pax was actually my first vape. I would reach for the Dyna/Anvil over both 90% of the time, fwiw.
