Trying to better understand how federation works - from reddthat, I can't see the pine tree and Siberian hogweed posts in the screenshot. Both those users are from instances that we're federated with.
Is it time based? I only joined that community today, and those posts are from days ago.
Edit: some hours later, I can now see those posts posts from this instance ๐ฅณ
Which community is this? Just so I can see myself and if there is anything wrong.
When you federate with communities (for the first time) it only brings in the "new posts", it doesn't immediately bring in every old post.
Most likely, it is because of that. I think eventually it will sync up, but federation prioritizes all content starting from the initial connection, rather than all previous content.
I also had issues with specific channels on lemmy.ml. some worked while others said 404 channel not found. Will get an example in a bit.

I was able to get this to work by searching "[email protected]" in the all communities search tab, then searching "security"
Kinda convoluted, but hopefully the experience gets smoother in the future

Yep that seems like the best way to do it at the moment. I'm not sure it will make it into v0.18 but there were some talks on the Lemmy admin matrix about it. Known pain point in the federation at the moment
