Welcome to the lemmy.world community for Portland, Oregon!

This community has kind of been empty since it was created, I'm hoping to change that!

Unlike "other" Portland communities you may have seen "elsewhere", I believe in a "warts and all" approach. You are free to take off your Rose tinted glasses and talk about topics that are dragging our city down.

At the same time, sunset pics, snowmageddon, traffic monster, cones, that's all welcome as well. Let's collectively keep Portland weird!

2024 is going to be an interesting year politically with all the changes to city government, I will attempt to tag political threads with a [Politics] tag and encourage users to do so as well.

Other than the lemmy.world restrictions on spam, copyrighted material, and adult material (USE that NSFW tag!), there's only one real way to get in trouble here:

  1. Don't attack other users.

It's OK to go after Teargas Ted, it's OK to say Rene Gonzales is a fascist, ACAB, BLM, whatever floats your boat (WEFYB).

It's NOT OK to attack or diminish another user. Feel free to disagree, you can point out the many ways you think they're wrong, just don't start throwing perjoratives AT OTHER USERS.

This dog has injured other dogs and people. I'm not sure what these neighbors are waiting on, kill that dog before something worse happens.

That's my reaction, if it were my dog being attacked, that's a dead rottweiler.

God forbid it's somebody's kid.

That's my concern. This dog has already injured an adult, and children are "prey" size. Sometimes, you have to bite the bullet and do something unpleasant before something even more unpleasant occurs.

Was out for a walk this week with the fam on a popular path, another family near us and chose McGee walks by with his adult doberman off leash sauntering at his side. Dude is 5'10, baseball cap pulled low, black sweatshirt, classic angry rich dude.

The dog walks right up to my partner, I snap at the guy, "can you leash your dog man?" No response, he starts to walk away. "Hey asshole, leash your dog." The guy says "you must be proud to use language like that while he keeps walking away" I said, "well I'm not just going to stay quiet because you're too cool to follow city and state laws." He just walks away. I see him 100 yards later leash his dog because he saw another walker coming towards us with a dog. Almost like he recognized the potential danger his animal presented...but only to other dogs. I reported him to police non-emergency.

The utter commitment to selfish disregard of others to the point of law breaking and endangerment of others is so appalling and utterly common with dog owners.

Our son and his wife have a giant malamute who is just a big doofus to everyone, people and dogs included...

Unless it's a poodle. Our boy Tundra hates poodles with a passion for some reason and will do everything in his power to take them down.

Stupid poodle racist:
