Where I live they are very shy. They check on us humans, but always behind the cover of trees. After two years they finally dare to just pass in the open and I will shout them a friendly 'Hello crows' when I see them.

How about jackdaws, do they behave similarly?
They are very similar but they are somewhat more inquisitive in examining their surroundings. They also share food with others especially if it's something they like.
Where I live, they rarely come down from the rooftops. Do you have any advice on how to attract them?
I'm not an expert, but I'd say the best is to hope they notice you putting out food for them so they might start flying down to you when you come out with food, do it at around the same time of the day.
