The Machamp line is the first one that comes to mind for me. My dad bought a two player starter set from the early years of the trading card game. The only 3 stage evolution in that set was the Machamp line. I always like to play that line in the tcg for game boy too. Machoke is my fav but I love them all.

That's a strong memory, for sure. I love it.
Atm for some reason it's Joltik, just instant serotonin on sight
Chandelure is also sick
And in terms of nostalgia it'd be Snivy because getting a Snivy plushy as a kid was a part of my introduction to Pokemon in general
Squirtle, always Squirtle
My first pokemon was Squirtle. Still have my OG Blue cart with the Mega Backup thing so he's not gone.
The line just has such good designs
all of the Kanto starter lines do
Not really a fan of GMax Blastoise though.
Bulbasaur, mainly for nostalgic reasons, but also the fact that I love grass types! All of them!
Bulbasaur is my go-to gen 1 starter, too. Grass is my #2 favorite type.
I like Skuntank as my favorite Pokémon. I saw fan artwork of it once online, then it became my favorite... After that I've tried to use one in most playthroughs.
My first pokemon was Squirtle. My "I don't care about winning" fun team would be Blastoise, Porygon (maybe Pory2), Mew, Mimikyu, Ditto (imposter), Rotom (any other than wash or fan).
Idk if I can pick one though. Mimikyu was OP in Gen 7 and he got me through a lot. Squirtle was also great in Kanto, he got me through Brock easy before I caught many others.
Donphan for nostalgia, but ground type is my favorite and the design is simple, looks tough and cool. It's debut in the Pokemon movie was also dope. Great tusk made my heart ink a little.
However, in recent years I have been liking Tangrowth, Alolan Ninetales, Mienshao, Tyrantrum, Hawlucha, Noivern, Mimikyu, Centiskorch, Skeliderdge, Glimmora, and of course Great Tusk, as I mentioned. All are just really fun to play around with and I've jived with the designs. They've also been on good teams that have given me success.
Tl;dr: Donphan
