The showrunners for Agent Carter dropped the ball when they went on reddit and admitted in an AMA that they saw the original Marvel short as the END of her story, not the beginning.

So let me get this straight, you want to go back to Peggy dealing with an overtly misogynistic work environment week after week, because you felt Howard Stark handing her the keys to S.H.I.E.L.D. was the END of her story?

They could have run a "Peggy founds S.H.I.E.L.D." series for a decade. Set episodes in the 40s, 50s and 60s.

The show runners didn't have the imagination for it.

My feelings precisely.

I watched the one-shot. Loved it. Dove into the show and thought immediately - Wait! What? We’re going backwards?

Yup, yup. And every episode started the same way... no matter what she did previously, "Oh Peggy, you wacky dame, go make me a sammich..."

I gave up on it after just a few episodes then caught the AMA and realized how fucked the whole thing was.
