I have an actual success story (so far). I bought the lifetime license of Pocket Casts before it was bought by, I wanna say, NPR. I still have all features and get every update now, years later. It's a fantastic app with a great web service which sadly has gone to a subscription. All buyers were promised that their purchases would be honoured and so far they really have been. It's great. It did take some complaining from the community in order to get them to do it but they have kept their word.
I've been fucked over more times than I haven't though. Pocket Casts is kind of an unusual experience.
