I was wondering the same thing. Also I show 11 comments here, but I can't see any of them.

great explanation by @[email protected] bellow. And I also see much higher number of comments then I really have.
Well I can't seem to find his comment. Look at his profile page and it's not showing up, I tried to reopen this thread and it shows 32 comments. But mine and yours are the only one showing up.
Likewise!

How about through this link?
No there's something different than that going on. This replies in my inbox, but when I go back to the thread it's not there. I can't see any comments except for the one I replied to, and my own.
Those aren't band accounts making comments. Unless you're trying to tell me my account is banned? I don't know why my account would be banned here.
I've no idea how to tell if your account is banned, so no, I wasn't trying to tell you that. But sorry, no idea what is going on on your side.
💖
?
Well, I'm not really sure about the comment numbers, etc. I saw a pull request solving negative comments in communities, though. So I guess it's still being worked on.
You can tag other users with @[email protected] when using the official web UI. I don't know about 3rd party clients, though.
I'm on the official UI now, but still it doesn't show link or anything.
Works now 😀 Doesn't work with copy paste though.
Yes, you'll have to type it out. There's also some kind of intelli-sense thing going on with a popup menu for auto completion.
Yeah, I'm always up for some solid intelli-sense.
I can see 34, yet can't see them.
Did your instance suffer from yesterday's script kiddie hack?
Not sure, but the users were being added immediately after I created the instance. Which is about a week ago.
You mean in the admin interface? That's normal. User's banned on OTHER instances will appear there.
I see, does it means that they are also banned from my instance? Or how do I read it?
No, they aren't, because accounts aren't federated. They're effectively banned from the fediverse, though, since once an account is banned, that very account can't be used to access the fediverse any more. Nothing hinders them to recreate the same accounts on other instaces.
I think, this is really misleading and also UI / UX wise pretty bad, as it clogs up the entire admin panel.
I see, since they're banned on their instance, that means they cannot access their account and then even the fediverse. Alright, thank you for the explanation. Helped me a lot.
You're welcome! Btw, I love Kofola. 😁 (Just had to think about that, because Czech Republic)
I appreciate that the first thing that came to your mind was Kofola, and not beer 😀
I'm situated in Germany, so I didn't want to kick off a debate. 😅 Also, I don't like beer.
Yeah, me neither. So now we don't need to start a beer war here.
Wait, isn't a ban just for one instance? You say it's not federated, so...?
I mean, if any ban was network-wide, it means a malicious instance can start banning anyone for no reason, and prevent those users from interacting at all?
Also aren't instances supposed to have their own rules?
No. What I'm talking about is:
- You register an account "WhoRoger" on "lemmy.world"
- You're banned from lemmy.world
- Ban appears everywhere (don't really know why)
- You can't use [email protected] anywhere any more
- But you can register "WhoRoger" on any other instance and use that again
Ok but what if I get a ban on lemmy.xyz, will that affect other instances?
Cause I think that's what OP is talking about, that their users got banned on other instances, not their home one.
Yes. The users banned on other instances will not be able to access his / her / their instance from their home instance, as they're banned there. Sorry, I'm usually trying to explain myself way too complicated.
I'm just more confused now to be honest. I'm not doing the best job either.
Let's have instances H, A and B. The user's home instance is H.
If the user gets a ban on any of these, how will it affect their use of other instances?
So,
Ban on H: ...
Ban on A: ...
Ban on B: ...
(Ofc A and B are the same, but gotta have 3 instances to know the effect on the 3rd one.)
Hmm. So, right now, you could totally post in one of the communities on my instance, right? If I ban you, you can't do that any more, but you'll still be able to post everywhere else. But if lemmy.world bans your account, that very account can't be used to post anywhere any more.
You'd have to register somewhere else.
Yea, that makes sense.
But previously you said
They’re effectively banned from the fediverse, though, since once an account is banned, that very account can’t be used to access the fediverse any more.
The discussion was about getting a ban on A/B, not H, so there was some misunderstanding at some stage.
Nvm, I think/hope it works as expected. Thanks.
But previously you said
Yes, I said that because I assumed that we were talking about what happens when the user's instance bans them.
So that doesn't really explain what's going on with me. I have two accounts, with the same name. This one at lemme.world and another at lemm.ee, which are all the other comments in this thread by the same name. I can see this whole thread on this account, but from the other one I can only see my comments and the person that was replying to.
I don't know what's going on, except maybe lemme.ee is the federated from dot ml? I don't know why, and I don't know if it's just me doing something wrong or not. I've been trying to figure out a way to find out who's the federated and who's not within an instance. Because my two front pages look vastly different.
If your home instance is H and you're banned on H, you're banned everywhere.
If your home instance is H and you're banned in A, you can't interact with A.
If your home instance is H and you're banned in A, B gets a wanted poster from A but B's not required to arrest them.
Bans made on a user’s home instance propagate across the Fediverse.
