I never really gave it that much thought before...now I can't stop wondering whether he has spikes on his hands or not. So my question for you is, what do you think?

I'm responding to an old post but what are you gonna when things are still this quiet. This seems like the busiest Sonic community here in the fediverse at least?

But I actually looked this up a little while back. Turns out Echidnas can actually grow some serious claws, which they use mostly to dig.

So I can see what they're going for / where they got the idea for Knuckles' design. They're probably legit claws.

And I seem to remember him chipping them in Sonic X, but it's not treated as an amputation or anything and later they're fine, so presumably they grow like claws / nails too.

I just assume the spikes are part of the glove and that he just happens to have big, red, furry hands underneath. Nothing special.

I was pretty sure about that too. But I looked up "Knuckles without gloves" awhile after watching this. I expected to only get fan art, but a surprising amount of it was official.

Though those pictures are from Archie Sonic and Boom respectively, and neither of those are canon to the games. Your guess is as good as mine as to what's under his gloves in the games, but now that I think about it, I like the idea of him having spikes on his hands. I thought it was uncanny at first, but it would be a more unique design than the others' hands.

Well, that's definitely uncanny. Good to know that there at least some sources that show how his hands look without gloves, even if they look different.
