Wait, what? You don't need to do a new save, to start an expedition?! ~~I'VE BEEN STARTING NEW GAMES FOR NO REASON THIS WHOLE TIME~~ Oh okay that's new, got it ๐

It's a brand-new feature! All previous Expeditions required a new save.
Oh snap, I missed that in the patch notes - thank you haha!
Thanks for the post. Just learned there was a new expedition in the first place and will be trying out the new feature to use my current save.
I too decided to start a new save. I have always liked starting an expedition from scratch as well. I did not get too far as I decided to try using the psvr2, only to be reminded I am blind without my glasses. Hopefully I will get a lot done tomorrow though.
Just finished (obv. minus the optional community milestones which aren't done yet).
I have to admit, while the staff and ship are great rewards, the expedition itself was, IMO, the weakest one yet for old-timers.
That's not really a surprise--this whole expedition is a marketing vehicle to pull in new players and is really a tutorial for a lot of the game mechanics--but it was still a little disappointing. I'm kinda glad that, unlike past expeditions where I've tended to take my time, I just powered through this one.
I'd be very curious to hear the thoughts of any newcomers, though!
As one parting thought, the very fact this was basically an extended tutorial tells me HG has plans for additional content, and the fears of the use of the term "omega" were unfounded. You don't try to draw new players into a game you plan to EOL.
I finished today as well. Overall, I thought it was fine. It's clear it was meant to show new players different parts of the game. I was actually glad it was so succinct without much grinding. Almost everything you need was within the confines of the expedition, either as a reward or available somewhere along the path.
While I always like the cosmetic rewards, it annoys me that the colors and textures never quite match the existing customizations. I wish they would go back and make everything a little more consistent.
I often keep playing my expedition saves and get them into an end-game state. I haven't decided if I will this time.
Your point about grinding is a good one. I think it was the last expedition (?) that had milestones like "discover a hot-blooded animal" which required just jumping around and and randomly searching, and eventually I just looked up a spoiler because I couldn't be bothered with that grind.
Certainly I made things a little easier for myself by loading up on various resources from my main save, but doing it from scratch would've been pretty painless.
I think you made the right call. I DID use the Anomaly expedition feature and loaded up with elements and tech I thought might be useful, but none of that was available when the expedition started; even when I got off planet, calling the Anomaly wasn't immediately an option. I'm only a few milestones in, I'm sure I'll see it any minute now, but if I'd thought it through I might have stored more mid-game materials! I'll update when I get there; very curious about what else I can bring over from my main save.
It looks like the expedition is finally over since the last optional milestone was reached; however when I go to collect the rewards and officially end the expedition, the game locks up. My character just stands there and the controls have no effect. Hopefully they get that fixed soon.
Moderately frustrating but for me it's part-and-parcel to the early game of NMS. I'm not that fond of the early game but the extrinsic rewards of some of the expeditions are too good to ignore. I look forward to bringing the staff and ship to my main save and hunting a pirate capital ship.
I cannot finish it on ps5 because i somehow have to wait till the community research milestone on planet 5 is done :S I dont know if it is a bug or something similar, but i wanted to finish it so i can start playing regular ( came back to playing NMS right when omega started )
Yeah, technically it's not over for me either. I just started doing end game tasks like collecting portal glyphs, farming for a freighter, etc.
Same, took time to hunt for glyphs because this is to be my primary save. Got some nice looking freighter, looking forward to start doong everything but the main quest lol
I ended up building out a base on Nash 33/W4 because I came across an S-Class Sodium spot and I liked the nearby cave system.
It's adjacent to a crashed freighter as well.
I'll keep expanding on it while I wait for the expedition to end so I can complete the main quests.
