No. R&D costs shitloads of money! Why R when you can just D and still get the tax breaks?!

One more thing to add to the list: Traction control that cannot be turned off at the push of a button. In cold climates this can easily make the difference between being able to easily get yourself out of a snowed in parking spot and leaving you stranded there.

I can't even think of a good reason why people have decided that a front wheel drive car needs traction control to begin with.

It's very much like MCAS or reddit's UI changes. The human factors people can say whatever they want about whether it's a good idea, but if someone in charge takes the attitude of "we need this car to be cool and different and this feature is how I make it cool and different and demonstrate my contributions to the design process" and doesn't want to hear any dissent, well, you're going to get a hard-to-use car.
