Well-intentioned people: let's wait and see if #Threads is, for example, a privacy nightmare

Facebook: we're not launching in Europe yet because right now it would be illegal

Right so.

The article title is a little misleading, it’s not being banned, Meta have just decided to launch Threads in US and UK only for the moment.

“it is understood that the DPC has not actively blocked the service. Instead, the tech giant has not yet prepared the service for a European launch outside the UK”

it will collect a wide variety of data from users, including health, financial information, browsing histories, location, purchases, contacts, search history and sensitive information.

How do you block an app from accessing browsing/search history/purchase?

There are certain apps I must use, for example banking or Notion. I can already block them from using location/contacts/photos…

I just wanted to see if other like browsing history/purchase history can be blocked

So what happens once they start to federate? The app might be blocked in the EU (or not launch there at all) but they still get access to EU citizen data through AP.

We don’t know when they’ll start to federate. I’d assume that they would both release in the EU and federate at the same time.
